Background: Carter, 55, has been a pastor at Athol UMC for more than two years. It is her first position as a pastor.
Right before taking the post, she was ordained as a nondenominational pastor after completing a correspondence course through the Evangelistic Messengers Association in Nashville, Tenn. She volunteers her time at the church and does not receive a salary.
Before arriving in Athol, she served as a music minister in California and worked as a certified public accountant for 18 years.
Personal: Carter and her husband, Jerry, have been married for 15 years. Between them they have six grown children from prior marriages and 15 grandchildren.
