The annual Festival of Flowers will be Saturday and next Sunday at the DoubleTree Hotel downtown.

Sponsored by St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute, the event will include an evening of wine and flowers and an elegant Victorian tea.

The event starts with wine and hors d’oeuvres served from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke’s, 711 S. Cowley, with a floral design competition. Cost is $35.

Reservations must be made in advance by calling 473-6006.

The Victorian tea will be served at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. next Sunday at the DoubleTree. The cost is $30 for adults, and $22 for children under 12. Reservations can be made by calling 473-6006.

The main festival, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Sunday at the DoubleTree, will include a gift shop, a fresh-flower market, garden portraits and artistic floral displays. Admission is $5.

Proceeds from this year’s festival will benefit the Foundation of Hope, a new organization founded by St. Luke’s that will help those recovering from a disabling injury or illness.

Juvenile Court mentors sought

The Spokane County Juvenile Court and Big Brothers and Sisters are teaming up to create a new mentoring program for juvenile offenders. Mentors are needed to provide positive adult role models to youths on probation.

Experience with delinquent behavior in youth is helpful but not required.

Volunteers must be over 21 with no criminal convictions and clean driving records. They must be willing to commit to a specific youth until he or she completes probation.

Mentors will be encouraged to participate in a variety of activities with their teenager. For more information, call 477-2469.
