Drowning Victim’S Name Is Released

Mon., March 27, 2000

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Of- fice released the name of a Kennewick man who drowned Saturday while fishing in Eloika Lake.

Matthew Combs, 23, died when the boat he was riding in capsized.

Combs had just caught a fish when the boat overturned. He and his fishing companion were standing at the time.

The surviving man was able to get to the one life jacket on the boat and was rescued by several people in another boat. The victim tried unsuccessfully to swim to shore in the 40-degree water.
