Board To Vote On Charter School
The Lake Pend Oreille School Board will decide tonight whether to approve a proposed charter school.
If the petition is approved, the Da Vinci Academy would become the ninth charter school in the state and the first in Bonner County. Legislation passed in 1998 allows charter schools to form, but they must be approved by the districts in which they reside.
Charter schools receive some state funding, but do not have to abide by the regulations that are imposed on the public schools. Nor do they operate under local school board oversight.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the district conference room at 1123 Lake Street in Sandpoint.
