Violet Castleton Grandview, Wash.

Graveside service for Violet Josephine Castleton, 78, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pack River Cemetery near Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Castleton, who was born in Bedford, Ind., died Saturday.

She grew up in Bedford and Shawnee, Okla., and married Hoyt Castleton in 1941.

The couple lived in Illinois and moved to California in 1950 and raised their family there. They settled in Sandpoint in 1970.

She moved to Ahsahka, Idaho, in 1994 and recently moved to Grandview to be near family.

Mrs. Castleton was a member of Sandpoint Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include five sons, Mort Castleton of Rathdrum, Idaho, Jess Castleton of Illinois, Charles Castleton of Orofino, Idaho, and Paul and Jerry Castleton, both of Boise; three daughters, Mary Reynolds of Grandview, Bev Davis of Stites, Idaho, and Debra Devault of Sandpoint; a sister, Betty Peterson of Rathdrum; 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Martha Church Moscow

Viewing for Martha A. Church, 86, will be today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Service is planned for Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at the Bethel Cemetery south of Troy, Idaho.

Mrs. Church, who was born at Big Bear Ridge near Deary, Idaho, died Monday.

She grew up and attended schools in Deary and graduated from the University of Idaho, majoring in home economics.

Mrs. Church served as a substitute teacher in the Deary and Moscow areas. In 1936 she married Donald Luvaas. They later divorced, and in 1944 she married James Church.

She had traveled extensively while her husband, James, served in the Navy. They retired in Superior, Mont., where they lived for several years.

After her husband died in 1986, Mrs. Church returned to the Moscow area, where she was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She later moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Moscow and had been involved with many church activities and also was a gardener.

Survivors include a son, Doug Church of Genesee, Idaho; a brother, Adolph Aas of California; three grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lillian Wilson Pullman

Visitation for Lillian A. Wilson, 85, will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Wilson, who was born in Wessington Springs, S.D., died Monday.

She graduated from high school in Wessington Springs and worked as a cook for schools in South Dakota.

From 1971 to 1979 she and her husband, Fred, wintered in Spokane. In 1989 she moved to Spokane and then recently to Pullman.

She was a member of the Quilting Club of Spokane and Church of Spokane.

Her husband died in 1980.

Survivors include six sons, Fred Wilson of Pullman, William Wilson of Moses Lake, Loren Wilson of Everett, Daniel Wilson of Salem, Ore., Charles Wilson of Luverne, Minn., and Ronald Wilson of Wessington Springs; a sister, Olga Peterson of Ortonville, Minn.; a half-brother, Donald Fagerhaug of Rocky River, Ohio; a stepbrother, Merle Johnson of Yankton, S.D.; a stepsister, Helene Lerseth of Beresford, S.D.; 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Margaret Caminetti Coeur d’Alene

Service for Margaret L. Caminetti, 75, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene with burial to follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Caminetti, who was born in Wisconsin, died Monday.

She lived in Wisconsin and worked in the shipyards in Bremerton during World War II before returning to Wisconsin.

Mrs. Caminetti moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1951 and lived in Bremerton before settling in San Jose, Calif. She married Martin Caminetti in 1963.

She moved back to Coeur d’Alene in 1971, and was a member of the Lincoln Way Church of God.

Mrs. Caminetti’s husband died in 1999.

Survivors include four sons, Martin Caminetti Jr. of Federal Way, Wash., Michael Hamilton of California, Miles Smith of Coeur d’Alene and Paul Smith of Nikiski, Alaska; three daughters, Kathy Lindsay of Athol, Idaho, and Cindy McDaniel and Mary Matthews, both of Post Falls; three brothers, Harold, Clarence and Delbert; two sisters, Gloria and Ruth; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Carla Deming Post Falls

Memorial service for Carla A. Deming, 43, will be Saturday at 5 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Ms. Deming, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1974 and worked at various local businesses, including the Idaho State Police, Advanced Input Devices and Itron.

She moved to Seattle and started a career in restaurant management before returning to Coeur d’Alene in 1998.

She was involved in softball and ceramics, and created paintings and custom-bead clothing.

Survivors include her mother, Anna Deming of Post Falls; three brothers, Curtis Deming of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Jeffrey Deming of Post Falls and Michael Deming of Coeur d’Alene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne Carlson Coeur d’Alene

Service for Wayne Carlson, 87, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Carlson, who was born in Willmar, Minn., died Saturday.

He lived in Coeur d’Alene and later in Oakland, Ore., and returned to Coeur d’Alene in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Laurel “Lori”; a son, Lance Carlson; three daughters, Holly Jannusch, Roxanne Haddan and Hope Carlson; a sister, Nelda Beales; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John Beckham Spokane

Graveside inurnment for John H. Beckham, 91, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Pines Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Granite, Idaho, Mr. Beckham died Saturday.

He moved to Spokane in 1921.

Mr. Beckham worked for the Conley Chemical Co. and later for Home Mattress Works for 40 years. He retired in 1970.

His wife of 63 years, Verna, died in 1993.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Thompson of Deer Park and Janet Dean of Seattle; a son, Jerry Beckham of Spokane; a sister, Pearl Keogh of Spokane; 33 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Patrick Redmond Spokane

Vigil service for Patrick E. Redmond, 66, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church.

Mr. Redmond, who was born in Walla Walla, died Monday.

During the summer he drove a horse-drawn plow to clear fire breaks along the Union Pacific rights of way.

He served in the Army for 22 months in Germany as an artillery surveyor.

Mr. Redmond began working for The Bon Marche in 1957 as a salesman in the book, camera and stationery department. He later moved to Pasadena, Calif., and worked as an assistant in a mercantile book and stationery company.

He returned to Spokane in 1959 and worked as a camera and greeting card buyer for The Bon Marche. He later transferred to Seattle and became a carpet and home furnishing buyer.

In 1974 he began working for Safeway in Bellevue and in 1985 started working for Rosauers Supermarkets in Spokane.

Mr. Redmond was active in Junior Achievement, and was a member of Mary Queen Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; four sons, Patrick, Michael, Dennis and Edward Redmond; two daughters, Kathleen Britt and Lisa Linden; a sister, Jackie Coulter; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

J.S. Fahlgren Spokane

Funeral Mass for J.S. “Cliff” Fahlgren, 79, is planned for 12:30 p.m. today in the chapel at the Jesuit House. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fahlgren, who was born in Washburn, N.D., died Saturday.

His family moved to Spokane in the 1930s, and he graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1938.

He received a degree in history and business administration from Texas Christian University.

Mr. Fahlgren completed naval flight training at Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1940, and served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War II. He retired as commander in 1966.

He later worked as a real estate broker in the Spokane area for more than 20 years.

Mr. Fahlgren was past president of the Gonzaga Alumni Association and was a recipient of the 1988 Alumni Merit Award.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Dadaellians, Retired Officers Association and the Parkinson Education Program.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Paddy; a daughter, Catherine Gregory of Colbert; two sons, Gregory Fahlgren of Colbert and Michael Fahlgren of Fairfax, Va.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jane Baldwin Spokane

Visitation for Jane Unetta (Cockburn) Baldwin, 83, will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. at Hillyard Baptist Church. Private burial will be held prior at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Baldwin died Monday.

She graduated from North Central High School.

During World War II she worked as a nurse’s aid at Deaconess Hospital and later worked for Crystal Laundry.

She married Eugene Baldwin, and was a homemaker and worked in food service for the Spokane School District.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years; two sons, Richard Baldwin of Spokane and Ronald Baldwin of Olympia; a brother, Collin Cockburn of Spokane; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hillyard Baptist Church.

Julian Hartill Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Julian Earl Hartill, 86, will be at 11 a.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will follow at Chewelah Memorial park.

A lifetime Chewelah resident, Mr. Hartill died Sunday.

He graduated from Jenkins High School in Chewelah in 1930 and married Florence Bakie in 1936. She died in 1977.

Mr. Hartill farmed in the Cozy Nook area near Chewelah. He also worked for the state Highway Department and retired in 1977.

He married Betty Cole in 1981.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gerald Hartill of Phoenix and Donald Hartill of Ithaca, N.Y.; a daughter, Bernice Keadle of Moses Lake; a stepson, Robin Cole of Newman Lake; a sister, Irene Hamilton of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth McConnell Spokane

Vigil service for Elizabeth S. McConnell, 92, will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 9 a.m. Friday at St. Paschal Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A 40-year Spokane resident, Mrs. McConnell died Monday. She was born in Almira, Wash.

She worked as a teacher and librarian for the West Valley School District.

She was a member of the Catholic Business Women’s Association, American Association of Retired Persons and the Altar Society and Guild at St. Paschal Catholic Church.

Her husband, Blair, died in 1970.

Survivors include two daughters, Grace McCathren of Spokane and Judy Edburg of Greenbluff; a sister, Josephine Moffit of Spokane; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Frances Peachey Spokane

Service for Frances F. Peachey, 85, will be at 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Peachey, who was born in Alberta, Canada, died Tuesday.

A Lewiston High School graduate, she married Alvin Peachey in 1933, moved to Spokane and was a homemaker.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Hanks of Spokane; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Brunhilde Brenneise Mead

Memorial service for Brunhilde “Bruni” Brenneise, 61, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Born in Germany, Mrs. Brenneise died Sunday.

She married Clarence Brenneise in 1958, and they came to Spokane in 1973 from Anchorage, Alaska.

Mrs. Brenneise was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Terry Brenneise, a daughter, Belinda Smith, and a stepson, Travis Smith, all of Spokane; a brother, Manfred Schurr of Berlin; and two grandchildren.
