Pioneer yacht manufacturer and offshore powerboat champion Richard Bertram has died in Stuart, Fla., from complications related to Parkinson’s disease. He was 84.

Bertram popularized the now standard V-type hull that allows boats to cut through rough waters.

Japan collected 25 hits, including an inside-the-park grand slam, and beat the United States 26-8 in Tokyo in the first U.S.-Japan women’s baseball game.
