Adams County Othello
The city has formed a committee to consider the consolidation of the city and county fire departments. The committee has just two weeks to make a decision, as the city fire chief has resigned to take another position, and the town wants formal direction taken by then.
Ferry County Republic
The Republic News-Miner has published a listing of hot fishing holes in Ferry County, including Curlew Lake, Davis Lake, Ellen Lake near Inchelium and Ward Lake, Swan Lake and Lake Roosevelt.
Grant County George
Neighbors of the Gorge Amphitheatre, angry over trespassing and traffic problems from concert crowds, were told by county commissioners that if the promoter, House of Blues, broke any condition of the permit, the county would shut the Gorge down.
Lincoln County Odessa
The gateway to the channeled scablands is officially open. Citizens of Odessa have been working hard to support the Bureau of Land Management in developing a trail from town through the spectacular canyons to Pacific Lake. Bikers, equestrians and hikers will be able to enjoy the one-of-a-kind geography throughout the spring and summer seasons. The city of Odessa and the BLM worked together in developing the trailhead, and will continue to work together to maintain the kiosk and facilities.
Pend Oreille County Newport
Dedra Taylor was recently crowned Newport’s Junior Miss. Taylor and princess Samantha Almond will act as official hostesses at community festivals and events. Taylor, a 16-year-old Newport High School junior, is an accomplished singer and plays the guitar and piano.
Spokane County Cheney
The Cheney Parks and Recreation Department is surveying Cheney residents over the phone regarding what they think about parks services. Parks personnel began calling on Tuesday and will continue on Thursday and Monday. For more information, call 235-7295.
Stevens County Chewelah
Happy 100th birthday, Elsie Eichenberger. Friends and family gathered recently to celebrate as the longtime Sunday school teacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church blew out her candles. Eichenberger was born Elsie Adella Guhlke in Bloomfield, Neb., on April 19, 1900. Since then, she’s had two happy marriages, seven children, numerous grandchildren and countless friends.
Whitman County Pullman
Pullman Memorial Hospital has opened a new two-bed intensive care unit for critically ill patients who previously may have been immediately transferred to an urban hospital. The hospital has added two new surgeons and a 24-hour in-house respiratory care therapist. The hospital also recently achieved accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, as a result of its demonstrated compliance with the nationally recognized health care standards.

Benewah County St. Maries
Gary and Nona Davis will open a quilting and general sewing supply store May 24 at the old Somethin’ Special Florist and Gift shop on Main Ave.
Bonner County Sandpoint
Kindergarten students or new or transferring students, first through sixth grade, in the Lake Pend Oreille School District should register from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 17 at the Panhandle Health District, 1020 Michigan St. A certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, complete immunization record and the social security number are required. If it’s impossible for parents or a legal guardian to register a child on the 17th, call the district at (208) 263-5159 to make arrangements.
Boundary County Bonners Ferry
Jackie Price was recently awarded a plaque for 10 years of dedicated dependable service to the National Weather Service. Jackie’s husband, Mike, answered an advertisement for a weatherperson for Jackie knowing she would accept the job. He helps her record weather readings when she can’t.
Kootenai County Worley
Worley will get a major cleaning this week by several community volunteer groups. City residents and Coeur d’Alene Tribal Housing members will have the opportunity to have their yard waste, old appliances and garbage removed free on Saturday. Lakeside Elementary students and Kids Express Daycare will be picking up litter Thursday. The Kootenai County Community Workers, via the the Sheriff’s Department, will be removing roadside litter.
Latah County Moscow
City Councilman Tony Johnson resigned Monday after the council meeting because he moved outside city limits to Viola. Mayor Marshall Comstock said he will appoint Chamber of Commerce President Joanne Mack to replace Johnson, if approved by the full City Council.
Shoshone County Pinehurst
The fourth-grade students at Pinehurst Elementary School have been raising westslope cutthroat trout in class. The fish were provided by Mark Liter of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Liter will discuss ichthyology with the class before they release the fish into a local stream.

Lincoln County Libby
A sixth annual tour of the Kootenai River, set for May 13 and 14, is the major fund-raiser for Habitat for Humanity, which builds affordable homes for low-income families. In conjunction with the bike tour, the Sheldon Mountain Boys will present a benefit concert on May 13. The bike tour begins at the Libby Chamber of Commerce and is co-sponsored by the Aid Association for Lutherans.
