Bestfoods said in a statement that its board had unanimously rejected the $66 a share cash bid from Unilever, the owner of Lipton teas, Vaseline and Pepsodent toothpaste. Bestfoods closed Wednesday trading up 10 at 61 on the New York Stock Exchange.

AltaVista Co. introduced a sleeker, quicker search engine Wednesday in a bid to re-establish itself as the Internet’s most sophisticated tour guide.
