The Rev. John Underhill, senior pastor of Valley Fourth Memorial Church, 2303 S. Bowdish.

The Shadle High School graduate (Class of 1973) previously served a church in Reardan, Wash., for seven years.

Serving at the Spokane Valley church is like returning home for Underhill. His father, Ed Underhill, was a pastor at Fourth Memorial Church on Spokane’s North Side for 30 years and was instrumental in getting Valley Fourth started in 1972.

John Underhill holds a degree in economics from Eastern Washington University and received a master of theology from Dallas Seminary in 1983.

In addition to his duties as pastor, Rev. Underhill also teaches a Bible class at Valley Christian School and a speech communication class at Moody Northwest.

Personal: Rev. Underhill and his wife, Carolyn, have been married for 20 years and have three children: Emily, 9; Greta, 9; and Peter, 4.
