Cops Southeast Hosting Border Patrol Agent Jones

An intelligence agent for the U.S. Border Patrol’s Spokane office will address the general meeting of COPS Southeast today from 7 to 7:30 p.m.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Agent Paul Jones, a 24-year Border Patrol veteran, will speak to volunteers at the substation about the Border Patrol’s history and what agents are up to nowadays.

“The short answer is that we are going back to concentrating on the border and cross-border smuggling,” he said Monday. The agency wants to transfer internal responsibilities back to border interdiction.

The Border Patrol is a federal law enforcement agency responsible for the interdiction of illegal immigrants attempting to enter the United States.

Also, Jones will talk about what agents on the Washington-Canadian border do - fight trafficking of strong Canadian marijuana called B.C. Bud, Jones said.

Substation president Marie Yates hopes the meeting will attract more volunteers. The community policing substation has about 100 volunteers at this time.
