EV Board Quizzes Pair For Open Seat

The East Valley School Board interviewed two candidates this week for an open seat on the board.

Jon Kinne and Scotty Smith are the final two of six candidates who filed for the seat. This opening came about when Karl Wilkinson resigned from the board earlier this spring to run for county commissioner.

Last week, the board interviewed four other candidates for the open position.

The board will vote in its new member at next Tuesday’s regular meeting.

Kinne emphasized the importance of the children in the district.

“The parents, the district - we’re all here to raise the kids,” he said. Kinne works at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene and said he has thought about running for the school board for two years.

Smith praised the school district for innovations in developing alternative programs as well as aggressive involvement in the new state tests, the Washington Assessment of Student Learning.

Both men are fathers of students in the East Valley School District.
