Timberlake Still Has Shot At State Title

State tournaments

Timberlake kept its title hopes alive after splitting a pair of games at the State A-2 softball tournament in Idaho Falls on Friday.

Amy Logan had three hits and scored three runs and Katie Carhart tossed a complete-game four-hitter to lead the Tigers to a 7-2 win over South Freemont in the opener.

Bishop Kelly blanked Timberlake 4-0 in the second game. Casi Reisenauer had three of the Tigers’ five hits in the game.

Timberlake needs to win all three games today to claim the state title.

Timberlake takes on Bear Lake this morning. The loser finishes third, while the winner must beat Bishop Kelly twice to finish first.

Lakeland won its first two games of the day before losing in the consolation finals.

The Hawks opened with an 11-3 win over Buhl and followed that with a 6-0 victory over South Freemont, before falling to Bear Lake 6-3.

Golf

Lake City’s boys and girls teams advanced to the championship round of the State A-1 tournament at Pinecrest Golf Course in Idaho Falls along with Coeur d’Alene’s boys and Lewiston’s girls.

Pocatello grabbed the first-day lead in the boys tourney with a 298 total. CdA, behind Brad Arnn’s 73, is second at 303, followed by Lake City with 304. Pat Jennings’ 72 paced LC.

Capital’s Cody Wolfenbarger shot a 69 for the low score of the day.

Twin Falls tallied 343 strokes to lead the girls portion of the tourney. Lake City and Madison are tied for second at 361. Lewiston (366) also qualified. Madison’s Arielle McFarland’s 77 was the low round.

Baseball

Derek Bruce, Ryan Clark and Jim Schmidt each had RBI singles as Lewiston stayed alive in the State A-1 consolation bracket with a 4-1 loser-out victory over Bonneville.

Colin Moss tossed a complete-game two-hitter and upped his record to 6-1 for the Bengals.

Lewiston takes on Borah today at 11 a.m. for the fourth-place trophy.

Pat Eberlin fired a complete-game one-hit shutout and St. Maries cruised to an 8-0 win over Wood River in the losers bracket of the State A-2 tournament in Ontario, Ore.

Eberlin, who struck out nine, also went 3 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs. SM plays Bear Lake today.

Bear Lake scored six runs in the sixth inning, all after two were out, and rolled to a 6-2 loser-out win over Lakeland in the State A-2 tourney.

Jeremy McMillen hit his school-record 11th home run for the Hawks.

Tennis

No area boys or girls remain in the championship bracket of the State A tournament in Boise.

Idaho Falls grabbed the first-day lead in team points with 18.

Moscow finished the first day with seven points, while Coeur d’Alene had six. Lewiston and Lake City scored two and one, respectively.
