Veterans Memorial Ceremony Today

There will be a ceremonial ground breaking for a long-awaited Veterans Memorial at 3 p.m. Tuesday on the south side of the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. The public is invited to attend.

Area veterans have worked for two years to complete a design and raise enough seed money for the $36,000 project, a marble and chrome display case that will be inside the Arena.

The case will feature items and stories from veterans of all wars. The project has been spearheaded over the past two years by members of the Spokane Area Veterans Memorial Committee. Many of committee’s members played an instrumental role in bringing a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall to Spokane in 1998.

The committee hopes to have the display-case memorial completed for a dedication on Veterans Day this November.
