Cda Boys Golfers Win It All

Coeur d’Alene rallied from a five-stroke first day deficit to edge first-round leader Pocatello 601-603 for the State A-1 boys golf championship at Pinecrest Golf Course in Idaho Falls.

Mark Michalek shot a 2-over-par 72 to pace the Vikings comeback. Brad Arnn and Gabe Dorosh carded 74s to help CdA post a 298 second-day total.

Pat Jennings, Eric Titus and Pat Jennings all shot 77s as Lake City (614) finished fifth.

Borah (610) finished third, followed by Twin Falls (611).

Twin Falls, which built an 18-stroke lead after the first round, easily held off runner-up Lake City 701-716 for the girls State A-1 title.

Lake City outshot Twin Falls 355-358 on the day.

Baseball

Borah jumped out to a big lead and held on for a white-knuckle 10-9 victory over Lewiston, eliminating the Bengals from the State A-1 baseball tournament in Boise.

Borah took a 10-3 lead into the sixth inning. Lewiston scored five runs in the sixth and had the bases loaded with nobody out in the top of seventh but managed to score just one run.

Derek Bruce and Julius Smith homered for the Bengals.

Jake Adams went 3 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs and Trent Duffy came on in relief in the third inning and worked his way out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam to lead St. Maries to an 8-2 victory over Bear Lake and a fourth-place finish at the State A-2 baseball tournament in Ontario, Ore.

Duffy also doubled twice and had two RBIs. St. Maries ends its season with a 25-4 record.

Softball

Bear Lake scored seven runs in the second inning and cruised to a 9-0 victory over Timberlake in a loser-out game at the State A-2 girls softball tournament in Idaho Falls.

Timberlake was held to just two hits on the day.

Basketball

Lakeland advanced to the semifinals of the Best of the West AAU boys basketball tournament in Yakima after posting a 3-0 mark during first-day play.

Gary Fost scored 20 points to lead Lakeland past Richland 89-59. Shane Hubbard tossed in 19 points in a 73-55 victory over Tekoa-Oakesdale and scored 28 in a 63-55 win over Prosser.
