Music made me do it … Do music lyrics and movies cause people to commit violent acts? Are violent video games to blame for youth violence? We’re looking for a few high school students to join us in a roundtable discussion next month on violence and pop culture. The date for the one-hour discussion has not been set. Dual personality? Not exactly. In last week’s Our Generation section, our Chase Youth Award nominee’s name was spelled two different ways. We just wanted to go on the record saying that Danielle Gutbrod, a student at M.E.A.D. alternative high school who was nominated in the Citizenship category for her work that included planting trees on Mount Rainier, does not go by the name Daniella.

ARTS is for you … The Arts Recognition and Talent Search, a program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, is looking for teens who will be high school seniors (or 17 or 18 years old if not in school) who demonstrate exceptional talent in dance, film and video, instrumental music, jazz, voice, theater, photography, visual arts or creative writing. Students who appy for the program are eligible for scholarships and awards and the chance to participate in an all-expense paid trip to Miami for ARTS Week.
