Children’S Theatre Presents Final Show

The Spokane Children’s Theatre opens its final show of the season on Saturday, the beloved story of “Anne of Green Gables.”

This Lucy Maud Montgomery story is about a feisty young orphan who is adopted by a lonely couple on Prince Edward Island. It was made into an enormously popular television series in the 1980s.

The Spokane Children’s Theatre version is a musical adaptation. Kimberly Roberts directs.

The show runs Saturday and again on June 3 and June 10 at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. There will also be evening performances on June 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 at 7 p.m.

All seats are $3.50 and must be reserved in advance by calling 328-4886.

All performances are at the Spokane Civic Theatre, 1020 N. Howard.

`Great American Tall Tales’

The Christian Youth Theater will open its spring production on Friday, “Great American Tall Tales,” a collection of classic American folk yarns.

The setting is a modern third-grade classroom, where the tales of Davy Crockett, Annie Oakley, Johnny Appleseed, John Henry and Calamity Jane come to life. In this version, the tall tales are performed with music.

The show has 79 cast members, all local youth.

The Christian Youth Theater has moved to a new venue for this show: The Lair Theater (Building 6) at Spokane Community College, Mission and Greene. The theater is larger than the CYT’s regular space at Uhden Hall, and the seating is tiered for better sightlines.

The show runs Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., June 2 at 7 p.m., June 3 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and June 4 at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for kids 12 and under. Call the CYT office at 487-6540 for reservations.
