Rose Search will become assistant superintendent for the Othello Schools July 1. Search, formerly the principal at Scootney Springs Elementary, was chosen last year as the Basin’s distinguished primary school administrator.

Danville

Darius “Doc” Young is one of the NRA’s top 50 pistol shooters of 1999. At his most recent competition, Young won the Idaho State Indoor Pistol Championship.

Grant County

Royal City

Land sales have been slow at the Royal Slope Port Industrial Park. At a recent meeting, port commissioners were asked to consider giving funds to the city to beef up streets and other infrastructure that connect to the port.

Lincoln County

Wilbur

Locals probably will have to wait about two weeks for news of a closed hearing this week concerning former Wilbur High School Principal George Olsen’s appeal of his Jan. 28 termination. Investigations have turned up what the district feels are “inappropriate sexual comments to students and staff.” School district documents allege Olsen attempted to arrange sex for his wife with a school employee in 1991. He also is accused of “lack of student discipline, inappropriate behavior with faculty, and intimidation of students.”

Pend Oreille County

Metaline Falls

State highway money has been approved to complete the Heritage Corridor project in the northern reaches of the county. Over the next five years, $27.6 million will be spent on Pend Oreille County roads.

Liberty Lake

A group of Liberty Lake Elementary students and parents planted 400 trees last week at the intersection of Liberty Lake Road and Sprague Avenue.

Stevens County

Kettle Falls

A bunch of leather-clad bikers rolled into town recently, but didn’t cause trouble. Instead, they donated 200 pounds of food and $265 dollars to the Kettle Falls Food Bank. This is the ninth year the Panhandle Riders Motorcycle Club from Post Falls has ridden to the food bank’s rescue.

The process of interviewing finalists for the Pullman School District superintendent began Wednesday and continues through today, with the new hire announced June 14. The candidates include education administrators from Lind, Chimacum, Waterville, Ridgefield and Medical Lake, Wash.

Today’s 1 p.m. Memorial Day Service - presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Woodlawn Cemetery - will include Archie McGregor giving the address, a 21-gun salute and flowers laid at the flagpole.

Bonner County

Priest River

The City Council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday. An open session will be held to possibly award the Wastewater Treatment Plant contract.

Boundary County

Bonners Ferry

Six officers, including Police Chief Dave Kramer and Boundary County Sheriff Greg Sprungl, will serve dinners at the Kootenai River Inn’s Springs restaurant from 6-9 p.m. Monday. Tips the officers receive will benefit the Idaho Special Olympic program.

Winton Elementary fifth-grader Daniel Bullard won a gold medal in the piano division of the Music and Allied Arts Festival at Gonzaga University.

Nathan Canney of Moscow was selected by the Youth for Understanding International Exchange to live with a host family in Japan for the summer.

Wallace

Seniors Craig Zanetti and Lindsay Carrico were named Male and Female Athletes of the Year at the annual Wallace All-Sports Banquet Tuesday.

Libby

Students and staff of Libby Middle School memorialized Maria Marozzo by planting a ponderosa pine tree near the room she taught in. Marozzo died Christmas Day of a pulmonary embolism. She had taught at the district for 26 years, including three at the middle school.
