Contract talks between the United Steelworkers of America and Kaiser Aluminum adjourned Friday in Chicago with the sides agreeing to meet again June 7-9 in Houston, where Kaiser’s headquarters are located.

A Kaiser official declined to comment on what progress, if any, had been made toward ending a dispute that has kept 2,900 union workers off the job ate Kaiser plants in Spokane, Tacoma, Gramercy, La., and Newark, Ohio, since Sept. 30, 1998.

Union spokesmen Jon Youngdahl said the National Labor Relations Board has asked both sides to remain mum while it decides whether to pursue a case against the company or await a negotiated resolution to the conflict.
