Man Found Guilty In Shooting Death

From Staff Reports

A man involved in a January home-invasion slaying was found guilty of first-degree murder Tuesday by Spokane County Superior Court Judge Richard Schroeder.

Marquis Jones, 25, is expected to be sentenced in December for his role in the murder of Michael J. Guilbeault, 21, in his 10921 E. Nixon house.

Cases against four others accused of participating in Guilbeault’s killing remain open. Investigators said Jones and Randy Powell pushed through Guilbeault’s door after Tiffany Herboldt got him to answer.

Two other men, Joshua Campbell and James Smith, were also charged in Guilbeault’s death.

The five were apparently looking to rob Guilbeault of cash. He was shot by Powell while being searched, court documents said.

The home where the murder occurred was also the scene of a fire over the weekend. The fire may have been started by candles burning on the porch, investigators said, but a final report is pending.
