More than 1,500 members of the Amateur Softball Association will gather in Spokane on Friday for a weeklong conference.
Ralph Raymond, coach of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Softball Team, will be among the members at the conference. Raymond led the 1996 and 2000 Olympic teams to gold medals. Olympic softball medalists Sheila Douty, Michelle Venturella and Michelle Smith will also attend.
Estimated economic impact from the conference is $1.8 million.
Founded in 1933, the association is the governing body for more than 3.7 million softball players, coaches and umpires in the United States. The association also selects teams for international competitions.
The conference runs through Nov. 10 at the Westcoast Grand and Doubletree Hotel. This is the first time the association has held its annual meeting in the Northwest.
