Snow Could Dust Higher Elevations Today

Wintry weather was forecast to overtake the Inland Northwest starting this morning and continuing through the end of the week.

An advisory was issued on Tuesday for up to 3 inches of snow in higher elevations of the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas overnight and this morning.

Snow was expected above 2,000 feet in elevation, or about the same level as the upper South Hill and West Plains in Spokane.

The high in Spokane today is expected to reach the mid-30s.

Temperatures are forecast to remain about 10 degrees below normal through Sunday. Highs were forecast in the low- to mid-30s with lows in the low 20s.

“We really don’t expect this stuff to go away,” said forecaster Rocky Pelatti of the National Weather Service office in Spokane.

“It’s a very unseasonable air mass for November,” he said.

The cold air from Alaska and British Columbia could bring crisp clear mornings over the next several days, but also a risk of afternoon snow showers, he said.
