WASHINGTON

Adams County Ritzville

The Menno Mennonite Church will celebrate its 100th birthday Saturday and Sunday. The theme for the two-day celebration is “Preparing Servants, Yesterday and Tomorrow.” An open house at the church will kick off the festivities Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Extensive historical displays will be set up. There will be special worship services the following day.

Ferry County Republic

With 115 entries in the local Les Schwab dealer’s Lucky Buck Contest, it seems it must have been a great hunting season. To enter, folks had to have their picture taken with their kill. Pictures were placed into a barrel and the winner picked out after deer hunting season was over. The winner of the grand prize, a rifle, was Jarred Fagerlie of Republic. Winning a gun case and lantern were Frank Geiger of Puyallup and Keith Harris of Mountlake Terrace.

Grant County Royal City

A proposed two-room addition to the local middle school has expanded. The district will be looking at adding four classrooms. Red Rock Elementary set an enrollment record with 735 youngsters attending classes.

Lincoln County Harrington

Advance tickets for the upcoming production of “Fiddler on the Roof” are available at Lincoln County Pharmacy in Davenport. The musical is the annual theatrical foray of K/P Productions of Harrington. “Fiddler” plays Dec. 1 and 3 at the Harrington High School auditorium. For information, call (509) 253-4678.

IDAHO

Benewah County Plummer/Worley

Students in 8th to 12th grades will be released at 12:30 p.m. Friday so they and staff members may attend the memorial service for Susie Montague. Montague, a past school board member and an employee at Benewah Medical Center, died of cancer. Students through seventh grade will not be in school Nov. 9 and 10 due to parent teacher conferences.

Bonner County Sandpoint

The Sandpoint Business Improvement District will have its first meeting to discuss goals, the budget and the National Main Street Center framework used to accomplish the revitalization goals. The meeting is set for 5:30 tonight at the City Forum. There are about 360 members of the BID. Call (208) 255-1876 for more information.

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

Boundary Community Hospital will be have a Safe Sitters class for 11- to 13-year old students. The necessary safety skills for children, infant through school age, will be taught. The 8-hour class will start at 8 p.m Wednesday in the Education Room. Cost is $30, call (208) 267-3141 to register. Registered nurses Wanda Wilkerson and Elaine Atkins will teach the class.

Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

The Panhandle Basin Advisory Group will meet with the Idaho Department of Agriculture, Idaho Department of Land and U.S. Forest Service to discuss water quality impairment regulations and their implementation. The public is invited to join them from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, 2750 Kathleen Ave.

Latah County Moscow

Less Parrott, a former president of two Nazarene colleges and a Christian evangelist, will be the guest speaker at the Moscow Church of the Nazarene’s Deeper Life Crusade. Parrott will speak at 7 tonight at the church, Sixth Street and Mountain View Road. Child care, for children 3 and under, will be provided.

Shoshone County Wallace

Zoning questions involving top soil removal from a field near the Coeur d’Alene River and the recently remediated Elk Creek pond will be discussed by the Shoshone County Planning and Zoning Commission at 7 p.m. tonight at the Public Safety Building in Wallace. The public is encouraged to attend.

MONTANA

Lincoln County Libby

Patty Peterson rescued her mini Doberman pinscher from a cougar attack recently. Peterson heard what she thought was her dogs scuffling and ran out of her house to break up the fight. Instead, she chased a cougar off by screaming and yelling. The cat ran off the porch with her 5-pound dog in its mouth. She continued to chase the cat until it dropped her dog. The dog suffered minor injuries and the lion has not returned.
