Fires Damage Two Spokane Homes
Two fires caused significant dam age to two Spokane homes on Wednesday, while two other blazes gutted storage units, a Spokane fire official reported.
There were no injuries reported.
Firefighters were called to 928 N. Perry at about 9:30 a.m. The fire, started in insulation piled on wiring, caused ceiling and structural damage to a bedroom, the official said.
Firefighters later responded to 1011 E. Hoffman. The home’s owner had been working on a basement oil furnace when oil spilled and ignited before 2 p.m, causing structural and ceiling damage.
Two storage garages caught fire at an apartment complex at 7010 N. Colton at around 6:30 p.m. Besides damage to the garages, a fiberglass car was destroyed.
A 4:30 a.m. fire scorched a metal storage shed containing mattresses, sofas and futons.
The shed was connected to Hometown Furniture, 1901 N. Division.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Fire Capt. Joel Fielder said. He said cardboard had been stacked in the alley and may have been piled where the fire started.
Fielder estimated damages in the shed fire to be around $100,000.
