Lakeside, Colfax Are Champions

The Lakeside Eagles and the Colfax Bulldogs were crowned state champions in their respective classes on Saturday.

Lakeside successfully defended its State 2A girls volleyball title at Yakima’s Sun Dome.

Jen Barcus had 27 kills and 14 digs and Kate Reome tallied 53 assists to lead Lakeside (26-2) to a 15-10, 10-15, 15-11 victory over Grandview in the championship match.

The Eagles advanced to the championship with a 15-9, 14-16, 15-0 semifinal win over Lynden Christian. Barcus had 34 kills and six blocks and Molly Stillar had 14 digs in the victory.

Lakeside opened the day with a 15-6, 15-7 quarterfinal win over Chelan. Barcus paved the way with eight kills, five digs and five blocks.

Colfax went from bridesmaid to bride at the State 1A tournament in Ellensburg.

The Bulldogs (33-5), who were runner-up at state last year, turned back Toutle Lake 15-8, 12-15, 15-13, in the championship match on Saturday.

Colfax advanced to the finale by sweeping Okanogan 15-5, 15-8 in the semifinals. The Bulldogs eliminated Freeman in a quarterfinal match to open the day 15-7, 15-10.

Becky VanTine topped Colfax with 37 kills on the day. Megan Doering added 66 assists.
