Mildred Woolen Honored For Dedication

Mildred Woolen, Spirit Lake, was recently inducted into the Aging and Adult Services Hall of Fame in Coeur d’Alene.

The 90-year-old was selected for her dedication in assisting the elderly of the community while promoting the Aging and Adult Services mission: Dedicated to protection, independence and dignity of individuals through advocacy and service.

She was commended for her efforts as an active advocate on senior issues in Kootenai County since 1979. She has served as the Spirit Lake Senior Center’s board treasurer and secretary.

Woolen also was cited for staying informed on community services, directing needy seniors to local resources, and earning the admiration and respect of others.

She has served in almost every aspect of senior service and still offers her expertise to the local senior center board. Woolen even delivered meals until recently when she entered a local care facility.

Five local residents recently received the Idaho Treasures Award from the University of Idaho Alumni Association.

Honorees are Shirley Newcomb, and Bill and McGee Parish, all of Moscow, and Carl and June Kiilsgaard of Viola, Idaho.

The award was created in 1995 to recognize retired UI faculty, staff and/or family members who have made significant contributions to the university during their retirement years.
