Fred Brown Spokane

Service for Fred L. Brown, 80, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Brown, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

He worked as a residential delivery truck driver for the Boyle Fuel Co., for 35 years. He retired in 1977.

Mr. Brown then worked as a custodian for 12 years at Joey August Distributors.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 690.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margaret; three sons, Fred and Herman Brown, both of Spokane, and Ron Brown of Cheney; three daughters, Betty Smith of Spokane, Terry McLeod of Nine Mile Falls and Bernice Zielke of Spangle; a sister, Elizabeth Rennich of Spokane; 17 grandchildren, numerous stepgrandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Janice (McMullen) Hunt Klimas Spokane

Memorial service for Janice (McMullen) Hunt Klimas, 61, will be at 7 p.m. today at the Moose Lodge, 6363 N. Lidgerwood. Jones and Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel in Muller Lake, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Salt Lake City, Mrs. Klimas died Oct. 21 while visiting Middletown, Calif.

Her family moved to Spokane and she graduated from Rogers High School.

She worked as a police dispatcher in California.

In 1984 she married Kenneth Klimas.

Mrs. Klimas and her husband moved back to Spokane 13 years ago and she worked as a 911 operator for 11 years.

She was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 2 Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge No. 74 Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Jeffrey Mann of Middletown, Calif.; a daughter, Jewel Mann of Spokane; a stepson, Kenneth Klimas Jr. of Fort Knox, Ky.; and four grandchildren.

Cecil Meyer Post Falls

Memorial service for Cecil C. Meyer, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Born in Youngstown, N.D., Mr. Meyer died Monday.

He grew up in Glasgow, Mont. In 1943 he married Harriett Jackson. They settled in Post Falls in 1946.

Mr. Meyer worked for the railroad for 34 years, and also owned Meyers Refrigeration in Post Falls.

He was the first elected mayor of Post Falls and served eight years on the City Council. He was the grand marshal at the 1999 Post Falls Days Parade.

Mr. Meyer was a member of the Post Falls Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Roy Meyer of Clark Fork, Idaho; two brothers, Howard Meyer of Pendleton, Ore., and Lloyd Meyer of Helena; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Harvey Minx Spokane

Service for Harvey J. Minx, 96, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A 42-year Spokane resident, Mr. Minx died Monday. He was born in Morton Grove, Ill.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Minx worked as a carpenter in the home construction industry. He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2 and the Carpenters Union.

His wife, Bessie, died in 1991.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Bettie Graham; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Paul Ewing Spokane

Service for Paul David Ewing, a lifetime Spokane resident, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Ewing, 85 died Monday.

He graduated from Rogers High School in 1934 and Kinman Business College in 1936.

In 1940 he married Wanda Wilbert.

Mr. Ewing served in the Army during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater in Okinawa, Japan.

He worked as a coordinator of employee services for Washington Water Power for 38 years before retiring in 1977.

Mr. Ewing was a member of the Washington Water Power Trail Blazers, the Trentwood Water Board and the American Legion Post No. 9. He was the past president of the Visiting Nurses Association.

Survivors include his wife; a son James Ewing, and a daughter, Valerie Okert, both of Spokane; a brother, Jerry Ewing of Spokane; three sisters, Ora Belle Stolz and Harriet Brewer, both of Spokane, and Gladys Elmore of Vashon Island, Wash.; three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Agnes Pedrotti Spokane

Vigil for Agnes Pedrotti, 92, will be at 7 p.m. today at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Burial Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mrs. Pedrotti, who was born in the village of Dambel in Trento, Italy, died Sunday.

She grew up and attended school in Dambel and in 1928 married Emanuel Pedrotti.

Her husband traveled to the United States first and she immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1939.

The couple was reunited in Missoula and later settled in Wallace. They moved to Sandpoint in 1972.

Her husband preceded her in death.

She moved to Spokane in 1993.

Mrs. Pedrotti was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and won many sewing ribbons at the Bonner County Fair.

Survivors include a son, David Pedrotti of Spokane; two daughters, Mary Lindley of Sandpoint and Arleen Fetrow of Benton City, Wash.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Carl Ousley Pullman

Service for Carl H. Ousley, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Colfax (Wash.) United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ousley, who was born in Burke, Idaho, died Monday.

His family moved to the Colfax area in the early 1920s and farmed in the Mockonema area.

He graduated in 1933 from Colfax High School and attended Whitworth College for one year.

In 1940 he married Emogene Daubert.

Mr. Ousley farmed in the Mockonema area until retiring about 15 years ago.

He moved to Moscow, Idaho, where he lived for one year and then moved to Pullman two years ago.

Mr. Ousley donated land to the Palouse Empire Fair in 1998. He was grand marshal of the fair parade in 1994.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the El Katif Shrine and the Elk’s Lodge in Moscow. He was past exalted ruler of the Colfax Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity at Whitworth College. He was past president of the Whitman County Cougar Club.

His wife died in 1993.

Mr. Ousley is survived by two daughters, Mary Ousley of Kirkland, Wash., and Nancy Ousley of Seattle.

Ralph Rice Spokane

Service for Ralph H. Rice, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at Valley Fourth Memorial Church. Burial will follow at the Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rice, who was born in Mica, died Sunday.

He had lived in the Spokane Valley for 70 years.

During World War II he served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific.

Mr. Rice worked as a meat packer for 50 years. He owned and operated Rice Meat Packing Co.

He was a member of and adult Sunday school teacher at Liberty Lake Community Church. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. No. 1435.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lula; a son, Grant Rice; and a daughter, Cathy Scotberg, both of Veradale.

Arthur Schauerman Odessa, Wash.

Memorial service for Arthur H. Schauerman, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage Church in Odessa. Private burial will precede the service at the Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Odessa resident, Mr. Schauerman died Saturday.

In the late 1930s he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He cleared trails and erected picnic tables, benches and camping facilities in northern Lincoln County.

During World War II he served in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines at a military hospital.

He married Elaine Diefe in 1942.

Mr. Schauerman worked as a custodian for the Odessa School District for 30 years. He was a member of Heritage Church and the Odessa Men’s Golf Association.

His wife died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Kim Schauerman of Odessa; two daughters, Terri Schanzenbach of Spokane and Amy Jo Giese of Renton, Wash.; a brother, Mel Schauerman of Odessa; three sisters, Alma Fulford of Redmond, Wash., Eleanor Sackmann of Yakima and Harriott Kaufmann of Tacoma; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Fred `Bub’ Thompson Spokane

No service will be held for Fred James “Bub” Thompson, 83, at his request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson, who was born in Corliss, Wis., died Saturday.

His family moved to Spokane in 1924 and operated a grocery store during the Depression.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1934.

Prior to World War II he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Army Air Corps.

Mr. Thompson began working as a brakeman for the Great Northern Railway in 1941. He retired in 1980.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bettie Jean; two sons, Jim Thompson of Spokane and Dean Thompson of Greenacres; a daughter, Susan Thompson of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Don Maggard Spokane

Service for Don D. Maggard, 71, was held Thursday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Committal service followed at the Pines Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Maggard died Nov. 6.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1945 to 1948.

Mr. Maggard worked as a driver for Acme Concrete and also worked as a paver operator for Inland Asphalt for 14 years.

He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local No. 370.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lavurel; a son, Allen Maggard of Spokane; two daughters, Donna Dorsh of Spokane and Dorsey Osborn of Highland, Calif.; two brothers, Pat and Wayne Maggard, both of Spokane; five sisters, Marie Taylor of Des Moines, Wash., Grace Nolting of Medical Lake, Joyce Morin of Spokane, Wanda Golab of Connecticut and Sandra Berthol of Snohomish, Wash.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Verna (Langley) Paulson Spokane

Service for Verna E. (Langley) Paulson, 89, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Born in Sandpoint, Mrs. Paulson died Sunday.

She grew up in Coeur d’Alene.

In 1930 she married Victor Paulson and they moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Paulson worked as a clerk in the accounting department of The Spokesman-Review for 23 years. She retired in 1971.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Jeannine Dumaw and Shirley Gravos; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Chester Rojan Spokane

Memorial service for Chester E. Rojan, 91, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Rojan, who was born in Hope, Idaho, died Saturday.

He was a 52-year Spokane resident.

Mr. Rojan served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and during World War II worked at Farragut Naval Base. He worked at Kodiak Naval Air Station after the war.

He moved to Spokane in 1948 and worked as a welder for Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood. He retired from the machine shop in 1974.

Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years, Vera; a daughter, Vicki Ball of Coeur d’Alene; two sons, Jack Rojan of Greenacres and Mike Rojan of Spokane; a brother, Pat Rojan of Hope; two sisters, Janie VanStone of Hope and Marie Hauger of Fenn, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Anita (Albert) McGourin Medical Lake

Visitation for Anita (Albert) McGourin, 85, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Cheney Funeral Chapel. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Medical Lake. Burial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park.

A longtime Medical Lake resident, Mrs. McGourin died Monday. She was born in Spokane.

As a child she lived on the family farm in Espanola, Wash. She graduated from Reardan High School.

In 1939 she married Edward Mann. He died in 1953.

She married Bill McGourin in 1958. They lived in Espanola, Chewelah, Colbert and Medical Lake.

Mrs. McGourin was a clerical worker in the medical industry. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Her husband died in 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Mann of Spangle and Jim Mann of Sacramento, Calif.; four stepchildren, Maureen, Bill, Patrick and Colleen; a sister, Bertha Pruyn of Missoula; and four grandchildren.

James `J.R.’ Treadwell Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for James W. “J.R.” Treadwell, 68, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Valley Fourth Memorial Church in Spokane. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Treadwell, who was born in Picher, Okla., died Saturday at his winter home in Yuma, Ariz.

He went to work for Northern Pacific Railroad at the age of 16. Mr. Treadwell was drafted into the Army and served during the Korean War.

After the war he returned to working for the railroad.

In 1956 he married Nelda Benge and they moved to Spokane.

He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1988.

Mr. Treadwell and his wife moved to Newport after retirement and lived on the Pend Oreille River. They spent winters in Yuma.

Survivors include his wife; seven children, Melody Marine, Gene, Cory and Curtis Treadwell, Robin Bangs and Clover Madden, all of Spokane, and Penny Milliken of Newport; his mother, Edna Treadwell of the Tri-Cities; four brothers, Ronnie Treadwell of Mississippi, Gordon Treadwell of Oregon, Larry Treadwell of California and Stanley Treadwell of China; a sister, Virginia Worthy of Pasco; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Penning Spokane

Visitation for Dorothy L. Walker Penning, 92, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Country Homes Christian Church. Private burial will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A 82-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Penning died Monday. She was born in Missouri.

She graduated in 1926 from North Central High School, and later from Cheney Normal School.

Mrs. Penning started teaching at Milan Elementary School in the late 1920s. In 1930 she married Wesley Walker. She became a homemaker. She returned to teaching as a substitute teacher for Spokane-area schools in the 1950s. She taught for 20 years in elementary schools.

Her husband died in 1970.

In 1974 she married Ray Penning.

Mrs. Penning was a member of North Hill Christian Church and North Hill Garden Club.

Her husband died in 1980.

Survivors include a son, Phil Walker of Colbert; a daughter, Margaret Counihan of Middlesex, N.J.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lesley Estes Spokane

Memorial service for Lesley E. Estes, 41, will be at noon Friday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Miss Estes, who was born in San Diego, died Nov. 9.

Her family moved to Spokane when she was an infant. After graduating from Shadle Park High School in 1977 she worked for Old National Bank and U.S. Bank for 13 years.

Miss Estes had worked as an eligibility specialist for Guardian Insurance Co. for the past 10 years.

She arranged food drives for the Spokane Food Bank and SpokAnimal CARE. She also volunteered with the Rape Crisis Network and the Spokane Humane Society. Miss Estes was a member of Job’s Daughters Bethel No. 64.

Survivors include her parents, Richard and Cledia Estes; and a sister, Lisa Tompkins, all of Spokane.

Margaret (Welborn) Evertsbusch Medical Lake

Memorial service for Margaret W. (Welborn) Evertsbusch, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cheney Funeral Chapel.

Born in Spokane, Mrs. Evertsbusch died Saturday.

Her family later moved to Wenatchee. She graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1935 and later moved to Pateros, Wash.

In 1942 she married Fred Evertsbusch.

They returned to Pateros after World War II and in 1968 moved to Medical Lake.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Carl Evertsbusch, and a daughter, Pat Evertsbusch, both of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Keith Welborn of Seattle; and two grandchildren.

Brian Carrier Colville, Wash.

Memorial service for Brian Leslie Carrier, 17, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint.

Mr. Carrier, who was born in Newport, Wash., died Sunday near Dodge Peak in southern Boundary County.

He grew up and attended school in Sagle. He completed his junior year at Sandpoint High School before moving to Colville, where he was completing his senior year.

Mr. Carrier was a former Cub Scout and Little League baseball player. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing the bass guitar and trumpet.

Survivors include his parents, Russ and Claudia Carrier of Colville; a brother, Russell Carrier of Florida; a sister, Lori Carrier of Colville; his grandparents, Rudolph and Evelyn Steffan of Arkansas, and Eva Carrier of Tacoma, Wash.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
