David Wilson Jr. Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for David Howie Wilson Jr., 63, will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Wilson, who was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, died Tuesday.

He immigrated to New York with his family in 1948. They lived in Long Island for several years before beginning a journey to California.

Mr. Wilson lived in Amarillo, Texas for a couple of years before settling in Pasadena, Calif. in 1956. He joined the Navy and began his musical career. He became a member of the band, The Cascades, which had a hit with “Rhythm of the Rain.”

The group toured the United States and Japan with the USO and later performed in the Pacific Northwest.

Mr. Wilson met Terrie Terrell in 1967 and the couple married in 1993 and settled in Coeur d’Alene.

He worked at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course from 1993 until last August.

Survivors include his wife; a son, David Wilson III of New York City; three daughters, Tracy Hughes of California, and Chellee Nash and Suzie Mize, both of Spokane; a brother, Peter Wilson, and two sisters, Joan Paul and Jane Collop, all of California; and one grandson, Isaiah Mize.

`Lois’ (Knapp) Mortensen Spokane

Memorial service for E. “Lois” (Knapp) Mortensen, 74, was Sunday at Spokane Central Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Born in Colville, Wash., Mrs. Mortensen died Tuesday.

She was a Spokane resident for more than 50 years and worked as a bartender.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Mortensen of Spokane and Pat Cummings of Nine Mile Falls; three daughters, Cindy Sustmun and Chris Lund, both of Spokane and Corby Parish of Lakeside, Mont.; three brothers, Dan, Jasper and Kevin Knapp; a sister, Barda Bedingfield; 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Keith Hogan Latah

Memorial service for Keith Aldon Hogan, 10, was Sunday at Valley Fourth Memorial Church.

Born in Opportunity, Keith died Wednesday.

His family lived in the Spokane Valley until moving to Latah a year and a half ago.

Keith was a fourth-grade student at Valley Home School.

He was a member of Bassmaster Magazine Club, Valley Home Scholars, Hare Raisers and Feather Dusters 4-H Club.

Survivors include his parents, Bruce and Brenda Hogan of Latah; two brothers, Ryan and Colin Hogan, both at home; a sister, Stacie Hogan of Spokane; his grandparents, Larry and Joanne Hogan of Spokane, Bernadine Hirschel of Latah, and Jack and Naomi DeGolier of Bellingham; and his great-grandmother, Mennette Hodgdon of Spokane.

Robert Westby Spokane

Private service will be held for Robert O. Westby, 71. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Minnesota, Mr. Westby died Wednesday.

His family moved to the Spokane when he was a child. They later moved to Riverside, Wash., and he graduated in 1946 from Riverside High School.

Mr. Westby served in the Army for 22 years during the Korean and Vietnam wars.

He moved back to Spokane in 1974 and worked as a home inspector for Bancshares Mortgage Co. He retired in 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Trude; a son, Robert Westby of Spokane; a brother, Dean Westby, and a sister, Loretta Tobler, both of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Edna (Brueni) Hansel Spokane

Memorial service for Edna M. (Brueni) Hansel, 77, was Friday at Foothills Community Church.

Mrs. Hansel, who died Tuesday, was born in Zenith, N.D.

She was a 50-year Spokane resident.

Mrs. Hansel graduated from Dickinson (N.D.) Model High School.

She worked as a country-school teacher before moving to Spokane in 1950. She then worked as a seamstress for Drapery Mart.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include four daughters, Robyn Angov and Patti Marshall, both of Spokane, Holly Warner of Newman Lake, and Joyce Jones of Arizona; a brother, John Brueni of Dickinson; two sisters, Martha Hoffman of Mott, N.D., and Emma Boch of Dickinson; and four grandchildren.

Vincent Jirava Ritzville, Wash.

Memorial service for Vincent Frank Jirava, 87, is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Ritzville.

Mr. Jirava, who died Wednesday, was born in Ogema, Minn.

In 1935 he married Beulah Polda. They moved to Sprague, Wash., in 1945.

Mr. Jirava worked for the Potlatch Lumber Co. He was transferred to Washtucna, Wash., in 1950. In 1954, he moved to Ritzville, where he managed a lumber yard for Boise Cascade. He then worked as a carpenter for Koch Building Co., and for Howard Seim in building St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church.

When Seim Building Supply opened in 1965 he managed the store until retiring in 1983.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Wayne Jirava of Ritzville; two brothers, Vladimir Jirava of Ogema and Jerome Jirava of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Barbara (Pfrang) Vick Sammamish, Wash.

Private memorial service for Barbara L. (Pfrang) Vick, a former Spokane resident, was last Monday in Sammamish.

Mrs. Vick, who was born in Wetmore, Kan., died Nov. 12. She was 81.

She graduated from high school in Tucson, Ariz. In 1941 she married Wayne Vick and they moved to Spokane.

During World War II she operated forklifts at the naval depot in Spokane. Mrs. Vick also was a homemaker and had worked as a cab driver and meat wrapper.

Her husband died in 1995.

She moved to Sammamish in 1998.

Survivors include a son, Ron Vick of Spokane; two daughters, Janet Hammer and Teree Barber, both of Sammamish; four grandsons and one great-grandson.

Theodore Soderquist Spokane

Memorial service for Theodore W. “Ted” Soderquist, 90, was Friday at Christ Lutheran Church.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Soderquist died Tuesday.

He graduated in 1925 from Valleyford High School.

Before World War II he worked for Washington Trust Bank. He served in the Army during the war.

Mr. Soderquist worked as a bookkeeper for J. Bell Trucking after the war and then worked for Farmers and Merchants Bank for 30 years.

After retiring from the bank he worked for Carlson Machine Shop.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

His first wife, Clara, died in 1973. His wife Grace died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Steve Soderquist of Greenacres; and two grandchildren.
