Contract Awarded For Airport Garage

A team of designers and contractors has been awarded an $11.3 million contract to build a new parking garage at Spokane International Airport.

The project, a five-level garage west of the existing parking structure, will add 1,139 covered spaces when finished in November 2001.

The contract team includes Lydig Construction, ALSC Architects, DCI Engineers and Graelic LLC. All but Graelic, based in Cleveland, have offices in Spokane.

Garage construction is funded by 15-year airport revenue bonds that were sold earlier this year.

Ground-breaking and demolition of a section of the existing surface lot will start in February, said airport spokesman Todd Woodard.

Some disruption of airport traffic flow will occur as the project adds bridges connecting the new and existing garages. The main entry to the existing 1,400-space garage will be relocated, probably next fall.

In addition to the Lydig-ALSC bid, other bidders were Garco Construction and Levernier Construction.
