Third-quarter earnings at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. beat Wall Street expectations, and the company said Tuesday it plans to continue its aggressive expansion.

After a record-setting first-half performance for General Motors Corp. in 2000, the No. 1 automaker is predicting a 4 percent to 7 percent drop in November’s U.S. car and truck sales compared with the year-ago period.

Ticketmaster Online Citysearch Inc. is buying Ticketmaster Corp. in a $653 million deal that will give control of the merged company back to Barry Diller, chairman of the cable television business USA Networks.

European aircraft consortium Airbus Industrie said Tuesday that International Lease Finance Corp., the industry’s largest leasing company, had signed a $5 billion contract to purchase 82 jetliners.

Correction: Plenum Communications Inc. Monday reported higher revenues, not earnings. A headline in Tuesday’s newspaper was incorrect.
