Framing Council Offers Tips On Hanging Artwork

Akron Beacon Journal

When it comes to hanging artwork, there’s strength in numbers. Creating a grouping adds drama and interest to a space. The Art & Framing Council offers these tips for arranging artwork: Lay the grouping out on the floor first. You can change things around and mull over the arrangement all you want without making a single nail hole.

Think of the grouping as one big picture. The simplest arrangement is a large rectangle. Arrange pieces around the outside first to form the border, then fit smaller pieces inside.

Vary the elements. It’s fine to mix framed items, such as artwork, photos and heirlooms or other objects.

Seek visual balance and harmony. Separate pieces of the same size or color palette, and make sure your eye moves easily from one piece to another.

Use the space you have. Groupings can be arranged around furniture, hanging objects and lamps.
