Lindeblad Shoots 70, Stands 16Th

Gary Lindeblad of Indian Canyon Golf Course shot a 2-under-par 70 on Wednesday and is tied for 16th place halfway through the four-round Senior PGA Tour qualifying tournament at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Lindeblad’s two-day total of 5-under 139 left him in a group of 11 that is eight strokes off the pace.

The low 16 finishers in the event will receive 2001 tour cards, with the top eight getting full exemptions.

Lindeblad had four birdies, 12 pars and two bogeys during his tour of the Bonnet Creek Golf Club’s Eagles Pines course. Lindeblad opened the day tied for 11th place.

Bill Holstead of Wichita, Kan., followed up Tuesday’s 62 with a 69 to maintain his lead.

Bob Gilder, a six-time winner on the PGA tour, shot a 63 to pull within one stroke of Holstead’s 131. Gilder was diagnosed with four kidney stones on Monday, and would likely have to quit the event if one of the stones started to move today or Friday.

The field of 110 was reduced to 71, with the cut coming at even-par 144.

Football

University of Colorado senior linebacker Ty Gregorak, a West Valley High product, retired from football after undergoing his seventh surgery last week.

Since arriving at Boulder, Gregorak has suffered injuries to his right knee, right hip and both shoulders.

Gregorak, 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, was a fourth-year senior with a redshirt year available.

Gregorak said his rehabilitation regimen of four or five hours per day wasn’t working.

“I apologize for not living up to the expectations of being one of the most visible recruits out of high school,” Gregorak said. “I had every intention and every dream of being the next great linebacker at this school, but it just didn’t work out.”

Gregorak, a communications major, is on schedule to graduate in May. He ended his career with 157 total tackles in 31 career games, including 11 starts.
