Othello

Microsoft will publish a case study on Exchange Server 2000, the software that handles the Othello School District computer network and e-mail. The software is designed to work with Windows 2000 and is scheduled for release Oct. 10. The district’s network specialist, Russ Beard, will help with the paper.

Ferry County

Republic

A steering committee will look at the feasibility of a baseball, softball and soccer complex for the south end of town. The town has a playfield shortage during spring and early summer, and grant money is available to help.

Farmers and others living next to the Gorge amphitheater have again gotten together to discuss problems with noise, trespassing and litter. Although the House of Blues, a Los Angeles management company, has updated the facilities, neighbors are still concerned about safety and privacy.

The city’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post is planning to invest $25,000 to fix up the veterans memorial in City Park, 4th and C streets. To help, call 235-5354.

Members of the high school cross country team and their coach took a day to level the ground and lay sod at the Head Start building. And the football team got up early last Saturday to pull weeds, and haul and spread gravel for a local church.

Whitman County

The road projects tying up the area should be completed early this month. The repaving of several Washington-side miles of Highway 270 between Pullman and Moscow, as well as $140,000 in Pullman street repair projects, are going as planned and will be done on time if the weather permits.

A benefit raffle will be held to help pay expenses and medical costs for Kade Benak and his dad. Benak received a bone-marrow transplant Sept. 15 to reverse the effects of Hurler’s Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. Kade is receiving treatment at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City; his dad is staying with him. To donate items or to purchase tickets, call Misty at (208) 686-2328.

The Sandpoint Independent Highway District Board of Commissioners approved making the intersection of Pine and Division streets a four-way stop. The stop signs will be installed Monday and are expected to help reduce delays for both pedestrians and drivers.

Lisa Richards-Evans with Idaho Parents Unlimited will conduct a workshop for parents of children with special needs. It will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Boundary County Extension office.

Kootenai County

The Rose Lake Historical Society’s annual Hunters Breakfast will be Oct. 7 and 8. Biscuits and gravy, ham, sausage, eggs, hash browns, pancakes and French toast will be served from 4:30 a.m. to noon both days at the old Rose Lake School. The cost is $15 a family or $6 a person.

The First Steps Program’s Dawn Trout was September Volunteer of the Month at Gritman Medical Center. First Steps helps new mothers in the hospital and at home.

The Silver Valley Kiwanis Club has challenged 13 other groups to help clean up the area. Kiwanis members will meet at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Kellogg High parking lot and invite everyone to join.
