Midweek Program Under Way At Cathedral

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist has begun its “Wonderful Wednesday” program for all ages.

Each Wednesday event begins with a short worship service at 6 p.m., followed by a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. The evening continues with Bible study and other programs for adults, teens and children.

Child care will be available for younger children. There is no charge to participate.

Also at the cathedral, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi will be observed with a special pet blessing during the 5:30 p.m. worship service Saturday. The service will be outside on the lawn, and animals of all shapes and sizes are welcome.

Author to speak on family life

Author Mimi Doe will discuss ways to create a closer, calmer family during an appearance at Unity Church of Truth on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Doe is the author of “Ten Principles for Spiritual Parenting” and has appeared on “Oprah” and been featured in Ladies Home Journal.

She also will speak during the church’s 9 and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday. Lunch will be served following the 11 a.m. service.

Donations will be accepted for the meal.

The cost of the workshop, titled “Busy but Balanced,” is $30. Child care will be available.

Rummage sales scheduled

First Covenant Church, 212 S. Division, will put on its rummage sale today through Saturday. Sale hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th, will host its annual rummage and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. There will also be a silent auction, and an original oil painting of Manito Park by Tom Wakeley will be raffled off.

Central United Methodist Church will have its rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The church is located at 518 W. Third.
