Gladys Treffry Cheney

Visitation for Gladys (Butikofer) Treffry, 82, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2536 N. Sixth, Cheney. Private burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Treffry, who was born in Idaho Falls, died Saturday.

After she graduated from Idaho Falls High School, she served on a mission in Louisiana and Texas.

She married Daren Treffry.

Mrs. Treffry and her family moved to Spokane after her husband finished his military service.

They moved to Southern California in 1961 and back to Spokane in 1968.

She had been a resident of the Cheney Care Center.

Mrs. Treffry was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Her husband died in 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Lynn and Gary Treffry; a daughter, Karen Simmons; eight brothers, Maurice, Merrill, Preston, Eldred, Howard, Allen, Reed and John; a sister, Maureen; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheney Care Center.

Gordon Lee Spokane

Funeral Mass for L. Gordon Lee, 94, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

An 82-year Spokane resident, Mr. Lee died Friday. He was born in Deer Park.

He was the senior partner at the certified public accountants firm of Morris, Lee and Co.

Mr. Lee was a member of the Washington State Certified Public Accountants and the Manito Country Club.

His wife of 66 years, Coralie, died in 1999.

Survivors include a son, Roger Lee of Spokane; a sister, Ellen Peters of Florida; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church.

Pong Christenson Spokane

Memorial service for Pong K. Christenson, 63, will be at 6 p.m. today at the home of David and Joanne Janke. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Hiroshima, Japan, Mrs. Christenson died Sunday.

Her family moved to Masan, Korea, when she was 8 years old, and she moved to Spokane 25 years ago from Masan.

Mrs. Christenson worked as a housekeeper and companion. She also had worked in housekeeping at St. Anne’s Children Home.

She is survived by three brothers and two sisters, all of Korea.

Joy Wood Spokane

Memorial service for Joy B. Wood will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wood, 83, died Monday.

She was a lifetime Spokane resident and a homemaker.

Her husband, Max, died in 1983.

Survivors include a son, Ben Tipke of Chattaroy; a daughter, Linda Wolf of Spokane; a stepson, Ben Wood of Elk; a sister, Lucille Brownlee of Spokane; three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Vernon Hotchkiss Colville, Wash.

Service for Vernon LeRoy “Vern” Hotchkiss, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Free Evangelical Church in Colville. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Colville resident, Mr. Hotchkiss died Sunday.

He married Evelyn Hoeft in 1936.

Mr. Hotchkiss worked as a contract and independent carpenter. He served as the building inspector for the city of Colville and Stevens County.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Shirley Jutila of Colville, Sharon Cook of San Ramon, Calif., and Kathy Wininger of Bismark, N.D.; three sons, Bob Hotchkiss of Spokane, Gary Hotchkiss of Colville and John Hotchkiss of Boise; three sisters, Marie Yates of Spokane, and Margaret Hotchkiss and Gladys Stewart, both of Colville; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Raymond Held Jr. Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for Dr. Raymond David Held Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Held, 48, died Friday.

He was born in Harvey, N.D., and grew up in Salem, Ore.

Dr. Held moved to Naples, Idaho, after graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

He moved to Newport in 1980.

Dr. Held practiced in Newport for a couple of years. He later operated Held Chiropractic Clinic in Spokane.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Washington State Chiropractic Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Celeste Hardan, and a son, Maximilian Held, both of Spokane; his mother, Anna Mae Held of Forest, Va.; two brothers, Gregory and Robert Held, both of Oregon; and three sisters, Connie Hutchison of Oregon, Loretta Hardison of Vancouver, Wash., and Kathy Jones of Forest.

Charles Farrow Spokane

Visitation for Charles S. Farrow, 82, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private burial at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Farrow, who was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, died Sunday.

His family moved to Spokane when he was 10.

He graduated from North Central High School.

Mr. Farrow had worked as a home builder in Spokane since 1946. He owned and operated Farrow Construction Co.

He was a charter member and past president of the Spokane Home Builders Association and served on the city Building Commission. He also was a member of the Spokane Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; two sons, Jim Farrow of Spokane and John Farrow of Seattle; a daughter, Pam Farrow of Seattle; four stepchildren, Pat Brinson of Cheney, Steve Storey of Seattle, Toni Storey of Las Vegas and Gerry Storey of Pasadena, Calif.; six grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Carol Mizell Spokane

Memorial service for Carol J. Mizell, 65, will be at 4 p.m. today at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Mizell died Sunday.

During high school she worked for The Crescent department store and Kress 5-Dime in downtown Spokane.

She graduated from Rogers High School in 1953.

Mrs. Mizell worked as an instructional assistant at Audubon Grade School for 33 years. She also was a volunteer for two years. She retired in June.

She was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and a 20-year member of the Miriam Circle Bible Study.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, William; a son, Bill Mizell of Spokane; three daughters, Nancy Lehman of Spokane, Cheri Ganas of Cheney and Diane Thompson of Nine Mile Falls; a brother, Kevin Scott of Manassas, Va.; a sister, Charlene Degenstein of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Eva Omejc Spokane

Memorial service for Eva B. Omejc, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash.

A longtime former Valley, Wash., resident, Mrs. Omejc died Sunday. She was born in Winchester, N.H.

She was an elementary school teacher in Valley for 20 years.

Mrs. Omejc recently had moved to Spokane.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Hampton of Spokane and Larry Hampton of Salt Lake City; two daughters, Pat Whitaker of Spokane and Judy Harness of Blanchard, Idaho; her former husband, John Omejc of Valley; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Alvin `Steve’ Wendlandt Tacoma

Visitation for Alvin Harold “Steve” Wendlandt, 91, will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mountain View Funeral Home in Tacoma. Service is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wendlandt, who was born in Reardan, Wash., died Sunday.

He graduated from Reardan High School.

Mr. Wendlandt worked as an electrical foreman for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired in 1971 and moved to Tacoma.

He also lived at Scott Lake in Olympia and wintered in Yuma, Ariz.

Mr. Wendlandt was a lifetime member of Concordia Lodge No. 249 in Millwood. He was regional director of Good Sam RV Club and a host for Alaskan cruises for the RV club.

His first wife of 50 years, Emma Joe, and his second wife of 12 years, Oneta, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Marjorie; a son, James Wendlandt of Tacoma; two daughters, Beverly Hanks of Coeur d’Alene and Myra McCormick of Yuma; a stepson, Robert Spencer of Salem, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Janice Arth of Tacoma; a brother, Warren Wendlandt of Hagatna, Guam; 14 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Florence Moore Spokane

Service for Florence Mary (Gressley) Moore, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Moore, who was born in Williston, N.D., died Saturday.

Her family moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho, when she was 9. They later moved to Cheney, where she graduated from high school in 1933.

She married Wayne Chandler in 1933. They divorced in 1955.

Mrs. Moore worked at Boeing in Seattle as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II.

After the war she worked at Sears and The Crescent department store in Spokane.

In 1956 she married Burt Moore.

She began working for Columbia Lighting in 1957. She retired in 1972. She also worked as a dog groomer.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Chandler of Spokane; a daughter, Nadyne Herrington of Worley, Idaho; a brother, Dell Gressley of Post Falls; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pete Suter Hauser Lake, Idaho

Memorial services for Pete Suter, 78, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Mr. Suter, who was born in Evansburg, Alberta, died Monday.

He served as a flight lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and completed two tours of duty in Europe.

Mr. Suter married Mary Simpson in 1944, and the couple eventually settled in British Columbia.

They moved to Spokane in 1961 and owned several businesses in the Valley area before moving to North Idaho in 1967.

Mr. Suter was a member of the Spokane Central Lions Club, Post Falls Lions Club, Inland Empire Full Gospel Business Fellowship and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

He enjoyed traveling and golfing.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years; a son, Martin Suter of Post Falls; a daughter, Carol Carter of Texas; two sisters, Eileen Aryonkic of Edmonton, Alberta, and Angie Brierley of Spokane; and two granddaughters.
