Roadless Images

Nature photography

A photo exhibit that features roadless areas in Idaho opened this week at the Moscow (Idaho) Community Center.

“Ground Zero: Roadless Areas in Our Backyard” is a series of large-format camera photos by Charles Pezeshki, an associate professor of mechanical and material engineering at Washington State University.

Typically, large-format photos - made from 4 by 5-inch negatives - aren’t taken of these places, Pezeshki said.

“First, the camera stuff to do it weighs a ton, and, second, photos of roadless areas don’t pay,” said Pezeshki, a forest protection activist. “All people want is a picture of Yosemite Valley,” which is strange he said, since anyone can see that from a paved road.

Pezeshki’s photos feature scenes that require footwork.

The Moscow Community Center gallery, on the corner of Third and Washington, is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The exhibit runs through Nov. 25.
