Denis McCrea Nespelem, Wash.
Service for Denis McCrea, 63, will be at today at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church on the West End of the Spokane Indian Reservation. Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McCrea, who was born in Nesepelem, died Tuesday.
He grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation and had been a longtime resident of the Colville Indian Reservation. Mr. McCrea was a member of the Colville Indian Tribe.
Mr. McCrea graduated from Columbia High School in Hunters, Wash.,in 1955.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator and a logger.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; a son, Shane McCrea; eight brothers and sisters, Laverne Kieffer and Arnold, Alvin, Vaughn, Jerry, Micky, Terry and Toby McCrea; and a grandson.
Bernice (Anderson) Hudkins Spokane
Service for Bernice (Anderson) Hudkins was held Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. today in Eureka, Mont.
Mrs. Hudkins died Monday. She was 82.
She was born in Malta, Mont., and grew up in Eureka.
Mrs. Hudkins moved to Spokane in 1950 and worked as a surgical technician at Veterans Affairs Medical Center for seven years.
She graduated from Spokane Community College and worked as a private-duty licensed practical nurse in home health-care and hospitals.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Licensed Practical Nurses Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Myrna Cliff and Linda Camp, both of Spokane; a brother, Russell Anderson of Kalispell, Mont.; and six grandchildren.
Agnes Smith Spokane
Memorial service for Agnes Talette (Lundby) Smith, 97, will be at 11 a.m. today at Covenant United Methodist Church. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, who was born in Harvey, N.D., died Tuesday.
She worked as a seamstress.
Mrs. Smith was a 35-year Spokane resident and a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Cassius, died in 1959.
Survivors include three sons, Darrell Smith of Spokane, Conrad Smith of Clarkston, Wash., and Jan Smith of Great Falls, Mont.; a daughter, Norine Huston of Lakewood, Colo.; a brother, Olaf Lundby of Great Falls; a sister, Luella Lundby of Great Falls; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Gilbert Cooley Spokane
Memorial service for Gilbert Lee Cooley, 80, will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Millwood Community Presbyterian Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Arnett, Okla., Mr. Cooley died Wednesday.
His family moved to Niles, Okla., when he was 4. He graduated from Hinton (Okla.) High School.
He married Helen Corder in 1940 and they lived in Oklahoma City, where he worked for Griffin Wholesale Grocery Co. They moved back to Hinton later that year and opened Cooley’s Food Market.
In 1943 he joined the Navy and served for three years.
He and his family later moved to Pasco, where he managed the grocery department at Nelson’s Market for five years.
In 1951 he became co-owner in Powers Candy Co. It was moved to Spokane in 1954 and merged with Peerless Nut and Popcorn Co. It became Powers Candy and Nut Co. and later he served as executive vice president and later president. Mr. Cooley was awarded the Western Candy Merchandiser of the Year Award in 1964, the J. Roger Osmon Award in 1969 and the Lorillard Citizenship Award in 1988. In 1994 he was elected to the National Candy Hall of Fame by the National Confectioners Sales Association.
He was a member of the National Candy Wholesalers Association and was on the board of directors and served as president from 1972 to 1973. He also was a member of the Washington State Candy and Tobacco Association and received the Supplier of the Year Award in 1991. He served as president for the Downtown Exchange Club in 1975.
Mr. Cooley had been a member of Millwood Community Presbyterian Church for 46 years, and served as an ordained elder and deacon.
He was a member of the Magnolia Chapter No. 194 of the Order of Eastern Star, Concordia Masonic Lodge 249 and was a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He also was a member of the El Katif Shrine, Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce and the Spokane Club.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen; two daughters, Carole Korff and Mary Stark, and a son, John Cooley, all of Spokane; six grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Clarence Davis Cheney
Service for Clarence Davis, 96, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at Cheney Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
A 76-year Cheney resident, Mr. Davis died Wednesday. He was born in Pineville, Mo.
His family moved to Washington when he was an infant.
He worked in the mining industry for more than 40 years and served as president of the Nevada Rawhide Mining Co. for 39 of those years. He also worked as a geologist for other mining companies.
Mr. Davis was a master of Four Corners Grange and East Cheney Grange.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Verald; a daughter, Beverly Buddrius-Horner; a sister, Merle Long; a brother, Ed Davis; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Vern Prophet Spokane
Visitation for Vern W. Prophet, 84, will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at the Garfield (Wash.) Cemetery.
An 80-year Spokane resident, Mr.
Prophet died Wednesday. He was born in Spokane.
He served in the Army National Guard, and from 1935 to 1939 he was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands.
In 1940 he married Elma Million.
Mr. Prophet began working for Northern Pacific Railroad, which later became Burlington Northern, in 1944. He retired in 1976 as a yardmaster at Yardley.
He served in the Army Reserves as a sergeant from 1955 to 1975.
Mr. Prophet was a member of First Free Methodist Church and Gideon’s International.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years; three sons, Larry Prophet of Spokane, Gerald Prophet of Post Falls and John Prophet of Eugene, Ore.; a daughter, Karen Kennedy of Bremerton; a brother, Gail Prophet of Yucaipa, Calif.; a sister, Maxine Wildman of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Glenn Duncan Spokane
Memorial service for Glenn H. Duncan, 76, will be at noon Monday at Faith Center Church in Vancouver, Wash. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Duncan, who was born in Joplin, Mo., died Sept. 23.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Duncan worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and as a schoolteacher in the Midwest.
He graduated from Open Bible College in Des Moines, Iowa, and began working in evangelical ministry.
Mr. Duncan was a pastor for 35 years in Vancouver and Woodland, Wash., before retiring and moving to Spokane in 1983.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary; two daughters, Rosalie Parker of Spokane and Melodie Carroll of Vancouver; three sisters, Edith Uehling of Napavine, Wash., Clara Adams of Antioch, Calif., and Grace Wayne of Custer, S.D.; a brother, Wilburn Duncan of Portland; and four grandchildren.
