Heisman watch

Michael Vick, QB, VaTech: Connected on 10 of 18 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns, one a 72-yarder in 48-20 win over West Virginia on Thursday night. Also ran 11 times for 57 yards.

LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, TCU: Did not play Saturday.

Chris Weinke, QB, Florida State: Broke the school record with 536 yards passing, including five touchdown passes as romped past Duke 56-3.

Drew Brees, QB, Purdue: Threw for 239 yards and five touchdowns, and rushed for another 56 yards as the 21stranked Boilermakers cruised past 17thranked Northwestern 41-28.

Woodrow Dantzler, QB, Clemson: Connected on 10 of 19 passes for 186 yards and ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-14 victory over Maryland.

Shocker

Tellis Redmon ran 20 yards for a score with 4:50 left to seal a 29-17 victory for Minnesota over No. 6 Ohio State, ending the Golden Gophers’ 51-year losing streak at Ohio Stadium. It was Minnesota’s first win against the Buckeyes since 1981 and first win at Columbus since 1949. The Golden Gophers had lost 16 in a row to the Buckeyes and 28 of the last 29.

Sizzling offense

Air Force rolled up 625 total yards, including 432 rushing, in a 51-34 win over Wyoming. Mike Thiessen ran for four touchdowns and threw for another.

History maker

David Splithoff became the first freshman to start at quarterback in Princeton’s 132-year history, completing 13 of 17 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a 55-28 victory over Brown.

Solemn tribute

Navy wore black anchors on the back of their helmets in memory of the sailors who were killed aboard the USS Cole while docking at Yemen. Navy lost to No. 20 Notre Dame 45-14.

Division I-AA highlights

Sophomore Tony Romo threw for 283 yards and six touchdowns to lead Eastern Illinois to a 48-7 victory over Murray State.

Josh Schmidt completed 21 of 22 passes for 366 yards and five touchdowns as St. Ambrose beat Trinity International 56-0.

Robert Kent threw for 337 yards and six touchdowns as Jackson State amassed 603 yards of total offense in a 64-20 win over Mississippi Valley State.

Maurice Hicks rushed for 236 yards and two touchdowns as North Carolina A&T beat Florida A&M 30-10.

Mike Cerchio was 29 for 49 for 410 yards and three touchdowns to lead Fairfield to a 24-10 win over St. Peter’s.

Dan Pincelli passed for 420 yards and six touchdowns to lead Hartwick to a 57-19 win over Alfred.
