Floyd Sets A Fast Pace For Falcons
Colin Floyd was a one-man wrecking crew as the SpragueHarrington Falcons rolled over visiting Curlew 72-22 in a rescheduled Northeast B-8 League football game Monday.
Floyd scored four touchdowns - on punt returns of 80 and 70 yards, an interception of 82 yards and a 20-yard pass from Aaron Henry - and ran for a two-point conversion to account for 26 points. Oh, yes, he rushed for 98 yards, too.
Mason Talkington scored twice for S-H (5-0, 5-0) on 17-yard runs. Mitch Snook passed for two touchdowns and ran for the third for Curlew (1-4, 1-3).
The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 8, but postponed when injuries left Curlew shorthanded.
Boys soccer
It took 96 minutes and a controversial decision, but Lake City has earned a date with rival Coeur d’Alene for a spot in the Idaho state boys A-1 soccer championships.
Nate Snyder of the Timberwolves scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 triumph over Lewiston on Monday in Coeur d’Alene in the first round of the Division I Region I tournament.
Snyder’s shot at the 96-minute mark on an assist from Jeremy Fender was cleared by Lewiston keeper Brice Boland. But after conferring with the sideline official, the referee ruled it a goal, saying the ball had crossed the goal plane.
No. 2 seeded Lake City (10-7) will play at No. 1 Coeur d’Alene (13-3) Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The winner earns the regional title and advances to state, while the loser will go to a playoff Saturday in McCall for another state berth.
Lewiston, which came in seeded third, finishes its season 4-10-1.
Post Falls did something only two other opponents have done against Sandpoint this soccer season: find the back of the Bulldogs’ net.
But the Trojans’ goal at the 69th minute wasn’t nearly enough as the top-seeded Bulldogs (14-0-1) rolled up a 10-1 win in an A-1 Division II Region I opener.
Charlie Kingsland and Chase Mickelson scored twice each to lead Sandpoint, which has recorded 12 shutout wins. Visiting Post Falls finishes its season 0-16-1.
Sandpoint will play host to second-seeded Moscow (9-7) in a second-round match Wednesday at 3:30 for the regional title. The Bears eliminated No. 3 Lakeland (6-11) 4-0.
