Charles Hoit Athol, Idaho
Service for Charles Day Hoit, 83, will be today at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. A reception will then take place at the Coeur d’Alene Christian Center. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hoit, who was born in Glendale, Calif., died Friday.
He graduated from high school in Glendale in 1935. He married Neal Whipp in 1941, and they lived in Glendale.
Mr. Hoit began a career with Lockheed Aircraft and lived in various cities in California. He also worked as a painting contractor.
He retired from Lockheed in 1981 and moved to Athol.
Mr. Hoit was involved with Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation and searching for Indian artifacts.
He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years; three sons, Ted Hoit of Coeur d’Alene, Mel Hoit of Spokane, and Preston Hoit of Palmdale, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Vernon `Vern’ Johnson Coeur d’Alene
Service for Vernon E. “Vern” Johnson, 81, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson, who was born in Minnesota, died Saturday.
He served with the Army Air Corp during World War II and then moved to the Coeur d’Alene area and worked at the Ohio Match Lumber Mill for 11 years.
Mr. Johnson later worked as a drywall contractor. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Ila; two daughters, Linda Collett and Lana Fenske, both of Spokane; a brother, David Johnson of Coeur d’Alene; three sisters, Florence Traverso and Pearl Hoialman, both of Coeur d’Alene, and Dora Patzer of Hayden, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

Arthur `Thumper’ Bauer St. Maries
Service for Arthur “Thumper” Bauer, 46, was at Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries.
Mr. Bauer, who was born in Milwaukee, Wis., died Wednesday.
He grew up in Milwaukee before moving to St. Maries with his family in 1971. He graduated from St. Maries High School in 1972 and worked for the Chicago-Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad and then for Edwards Lumber Mill.
He also did various odd jobs in the St. Maries area.
Mr. Bauer enjoyed hunting, fishing, music and rock hunting. He was a Roman Catholic.
Survivors include his father, Arthur Bauer of St. Maries; three brothers, Andrew Bauer of Careywood, Idaho, Aaron Bauer of Kooskia, Idaho, and Adam Bauer of St. Maries; and three sisters, Heidi Sayler of Lewiston, Peggy Henriksen of Spokane and Gretchen Presley of St. Maries.
Hannah Martinson Colfax, Wash.
Service for Hannah L. Martinson, 95, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery.
Mrs. Martinson, who was born in Eastern Oklahoma, died Thursday.
Her family moved to the Colfax area in 1922.
She worked in the cookhouse on the farm of Lou and Anna Hofers at Spring Flats, Wash., near Colfax.
In 1937 she married Dan Martinson.
Mrs. Martinson worked as a cook. She also owned and operated the Three Monkeys Cafe and managed the Korner Koffe Kup and the coffee shop in the old Whitman Hotel. She operated a ladies clothing store.
She managed the kitchen at the Colfax Elks Lodge after she retired.
Mrs. Martinson was a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary and was a member of Rebekah Lodge.
Her husband died in 1951.
She is survived by a nephew and three nieces.

Paul Vernier Spokane
Visitation for Paul E. Vernier, a longtime Pullman-area farmer, will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Following at 11 a.m. will be a graveside service at the Pullman Cemetery and a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Pullman Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Vernier, who was born in Louisville, Ohio, died Wednesday. He was 95.
His family moved to Schrag, Wash., to farm when he was a child. They later moved to a farm in Ephrata, Wash.
In 1927 he married Imelda Libey.
He worked as a farmer in the Pullman area and served on the school board in Pullman and on a soil conservation district board.
Mr. Vernier and his wife moved to Spokane 1 years ago.
He was a member of Whelan Grange and Pullman Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Harvey Vernier of Spokane; two daughters, Jean McCandless of Spokane and Carol Nelson of Pendleton, Ore.; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

George Hoglund Colville, Wash.
Graveside service for George H. Hoglund, 82, will be at 2 p.m. today at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Northport, Wash., Mr. Hoglund died Wednesday.
He graduated from Northport High School.
Mr. Hoglund worked for the Forest Service until he entered the Army. He served during World War II.
In 1950 he entered the Air Force and was a member of the Strategic Air Command. He retired in 1958, He married Flora Neff in 1957, and they moved to Colville in 1958.
Mr. Hoglund worked as a grinder for Colmac.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deanna Jensen and Lorna Wise, both of Colville; a brother, Clark Hoglund of Kettle Falls, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Margaret Morig Spokane
Visitation for Margaret “Eileen” (Mellen) Morig, 83, will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Morig died Friday.
She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and Sunset Grange.
Her husband, Carl, died in 1981.
Survivors include two sons, William Morig of Spokane and Robert Morig of Annandale, Va.; a sister, Kathleen Side of Spokane; a brother, John Mellen of California; and four grandchildren.

Elizabeth Allen Spokane
Funeral Mass for Elizabeth “Jeanne” Allen, 78, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. Private burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 36-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Allen died Saturday. She was born in Spokane.
She worked as a dental technician and was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Guild at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Vincent; a son, Vincent Allen of Spokane; and three brothers, Michael and William Robinson, both of Spokane, and Patrick Robinson of Tempe, Ariz.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Thomas More Building Fund.
Inez Johnson Spokane
Graveside service for Inez E. Johnson will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
Born in Missoula, Mrs. Johnson died Friday. She was 85.
In 1937 she married Edwin Johnson.
She was a homemaker and a 45-year Spokane resident.
Her husband died in 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Dave Johnson of Green Bluff and Daniel Johnson of Liberty Lake; two daughters, Marlene Soltero of Spokane and Joanne Mydland-Barstad of Sokndal, Norway; a brother, Emmett Haugen of Deer Lodge, Mont.; a sister, Irene Mydland of Chewelah, Wash.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

James Burger Spokane
Funeral Mass of James Charles Burger, 73, was held Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Burger died Wednesday.
He graduated from Gonzaga Prep and served in the Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
Mr. Burger worked for Union Pacific Railroad until he began working for the Spokane Fire Department in 1951. He retired as captain in 1983.
He served as vice president for International Association of Firefighters Local No. 29 and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Mr. Burger was a member of the board of directors of the Spokane Firefighters Credit Union for 20 years. He was awarded the title of president emeritus after serving as president for 10 years.
He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and choir and was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Beverly; a daughter, Kathy Allen of Spokane; four sons, John, Steve and Gary Burger, all of Spokane, and Howard Burger of Fort Worth, Texas; his mother, Evelyn Burger; a sister, Jackie Adams of Hamilton, Mont.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Heart Retreat House, the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the St. Charles Organ Fund.
Felicia Bryl Spokane
Service for Felicia C. Bryl, 81, will be held at St. Francis Cabrini Roman Catholic Church in West Bend, Wis. Burial will be at Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Milwaukee, Mrs. Bryl died last Tuesday.
She graduated from high school in Milwaukee in 1937 and married Henry Bryl in 1941.
Mrs. Bryl was a homemaker.
After her husband died in 1990, she moved to Spokane.
She has been a resident of the Fairwood Retirement Community.
Survivors include a son, Alan Bryl of Jackson, Wis.; a daughter, Karen French of Nine Mile Falls; four sisters, Aurelia Citkowski and Virginia Bryl, both of Milwaukee, and Evelyn Regan and Angeline DeBattist, both of West Allis, Wis.; and two grandchildren.
Ann (Smith) Taylor Spokane
Service for Ann A (Smith) Taylor, 91, will be at 2 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Taylor, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Thursday.
Her family moved in 1915 to Colville, Wash., where she graduated from high school.
She moved to Spokane in 1930 and married Eldon Taylor in 1934.
Mrs. Taylor worked as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney’s from 1948 to 1966.
Her husband died in 1966.
Survivors include a son, Bob Taylor of Mead; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

Jean Einhaus Spokane
Graveside service for Jean L. Einhaus, 75, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Moran Prairie Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
A 47-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Einhaus died Sunday. She was born in Pittsburgh.
She married Lyle Einhaus in 1956.
Mrs. Einhaus was a homemaker and a member of Valley Open Bible Church. She also was a partner in the Bennie Hinn Ministries.
Her husband died in 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Brad and Mark Einhaus, both of New York; and three grandchildren.

Wade Miller Bandon, Ore.
Memorial service for Wade G. Miller, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Place Assisted Living in Bandon. Amling-Schroeder Funeral Service in Bandon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Miller, who was born in Plummer, Idaho, died Wednesday.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed at Galena Air Depot and in India.
In 1959 he married Marian Braathen Zylstra.
Mr. Miller and his wife had lived in Spokane, Tekoa, Wash., Worley, Idaho, and Coeur d’Alene. He worked as a farmer, real estate agent and a heavy equipment operator.
After his wife died in 1997, he moved to Florence, Ore. He recently moved to Heritage Place in Bandon.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include a son, William Zylstra of Arlington, Wash.; four daughters, Marijo Swenson of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Patty Sorenson of Mukilteo, Wash., Roberta Wise of Bandon and Linda Marlow of Redding, Calif.; a sister, Thelma McMannis of Veradale; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Gerald McBride Loon Lake, Wash.
Memorial service for Gerald S. McBride, 58, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A 25-year Spokane resident, Mr. McBride died Thursday. He was born in San Bernadino, Calif.
He graduated from Central Valley High School in 1960 and served in the Navy from 1961 to 1965.
In 1973 he married Bonnie McNeese.
Mr. McBride worked as a central office technician for US West for 33 years.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Brian McBride of Loon Lake, Stirling McBride of Edgewood, Wash., Wayne McBride of Puyallup, Wash., and David McBride of Alliance, Neb.; a daughter, Patricia Coulson, and his father, Gerald McBride, both of Spokane; a sister, Mary Dailey of Central Point, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren.
Merrilee Willhite Spokane
Visitation for Merrilee M. Willhite, 68, will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Wayside Cemetery in Deer Park.
Mrs. Willhite died Thursday.
She was a lifetime Spokane resident and a homemaker.
Her husband of 37 years, Lloyd Willhite Sr., died in 1988.
Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Jr. and Dale Willhite, both of Spokane; two daughters, Pamela Wiese of Spokane and Peggy Farmer of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Margene Dougherty and Lorelei Wadswroth, both of Spokane; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pauline Allen Spokane
Memorial service for Pauline K. Allen, 99, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.
Born in Dayton, Wash., Mrs. Allen died Friday.
She was a 70-year Spokane resident.
Mrs. Allen worked for the Student Book Corp., which is now the Washington State University Bookstore, in Pullman.
She later worked at Bernard’s Clothing for 20 years. She also owned and operated Allen’s Grocery from 1952 to 1956.
Mrs. Allen was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church and Order of Eastern Star Crescent Chapter 53 in Pullman.
Her husband of 34 years, James, died in 1955.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia Ellingsen of Spokane; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
