Gary Boyer Honored For Life-Saving Act

Gary Boyer, an equipment technician with Verizon Northwest in Coeur d’Alene, has been awarded the LaCroix Bronze Medal and $500 cash for saving a child earlier this year.

Boyer was eating at The Pizza Shoppe in Coeur d’Alene with his wife and some friends when a child at a booth nearby began choking.

After discovering the child was turning blue, Boyer quickly grabbed the young boy and administered a manuever which he learned at a company-sponsored first aid training course.

His actions dislodged a clump of pizza crust and the youngster was able to breath normally.

Boyer has been with Verizon, formerly GTE, for 22 years and was nominated for the award by his supervisor, Scott Hoskins.

Local businesses contributed to the open house for the Early Childhood Resource Center at North Idaho College Head Start held this summer. The nonprofit organization shared information and resources with community members thanks to the following supporters:

The Hayden Lake Eagles donated $1,100 this month to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to finish repairing the roof in the Coeur d’Alene men’s shelter.
