Gore Expected To Make Second Visit To Spokane

From Staff Reports

Vice President Al Gore is tentatively scheduled to make a campaign appearance in Spokane on Monday, a county Democratic leader said.

County Democratic Chairman Ken Pelo said the campaign was looking at several possible locations for an event with Gore, which would likely occur in the afternoon or early evening. Details of the event are expected to be released today after they are final.

The Democratic presidential nominee is also tentatively scheduled to appear in Seattle on Monday, either before or after the Spokane stop.

Gore’s visit would be the second to Spokane this year. He appeared as the dinner speaker at the state Democratic Convention in June at the Spokane Opera House. Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush was in Spokane last month for a rally at Spokane International Airport.

Although the state has backed Democratic candidates in the last three presidential elections, Washington is currently considered a swing state by both parties. The state also has hotly contested gubernatorial and congressional races.
