Obituaries

Helen Flock Spokane

Memorial service for Helen C. Flock, 80, will be at 11 a.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church. Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Flock, who was born in Oakland, Calif., died Saturday.

Her family moved to the Spokane area in 1924. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mrs. Flock was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Her first husband, Earl Dalke, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Gerald; eight sons, Gary, Richard, Eric, Steve, David, Harold, Frank and Craig Dalke; two daughters, Louise Dalke and Melodie Isaacson; two stepsons, Jerry and Steven Flock; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ruth Gould Durand, Mich.

Burial for Ruth Ella Gould, 80, will be Friday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg, Ohio. Watkins Brothers Funeral Home in Durand is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Gould, a former Spokane resident, died Oct. 3. She was born in Oriskany Falls, N.Y.

In 1937 she graduated from North Side High School in Corning, N.Y.

Miss Gould received a bachelor’s degree in dietetics in 1942 from Cornell University and a master’s degree from Michigan State University in 1954.

She worked for the state of Michigan until moving to Spokane in the early 1960s from Cadillac, Mich.

Miss Gould worked as an dietetic extension specialist for the federal government in Spokane for more than 20 years. She retired in the 1980s. In 1967 she received recognition from the American Dietetics Association for her program of helping poor women provide a healthy diet for themselves and their families.

She moved to Pittsburgh in the early 1990s and then to Cleveland. She moved to Durand a year and a half ago.

Miss Gould served as a deaconess at Knox Presbyterian Church in Spokane.

She is survived by a sister, Helen Parker of Perry, Mich.

Betty Granger Spokane

Funeral Mass for Betty M. Granger, 74, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Longview, Wash., Miss Granger died Tuesday.

She was a 47-year Spokane resident.

Miss Granger worked as a beautician for Goodwill Industries.

She is survived by a cousin, Irene Slater of Spokane.

Darlyne (Ness) Velasco Spokane

Graveside service for Darlyne (Ness) Velasco, 74, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 56-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Velasco died Wednesday. She was born in Columbus, N.D.

She married Robert Velasco in 1946.

Mrs. Velasco worked as an executive secretary at Pyrotek for more than 20 years and retired in 1995.

Survivors include her husband; and a brother, Vernice Ness of Yuma, Ariz.

Robert Dillon Spokane

Memorial service for Robert C. Dillon, 85, was Friday at Airway Heights Baptist Church.

Mr. Dillon, who was born in Black Bear, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He was a 50-year Spokane resident and was a self-employed certified public accountant.

His wife of 54 years, Helen, died in 1995.

Survivors include three sons, William Dillon of Spokane, James Dillon of Airway Heights and Richard Dillon of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Skidmore of Harrison, Idaho; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Presvytera `Yia Yia’ Velis Spokane

Service for Presvytera Francis “Yia Yia” (Luras) Velis, 81, will be at noon today at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Velis, who was born in Bingham Canyon, Utah, died Wednesday.

In 1943 she married Nicholas Velis. They moved to Spokane in 1959.

Mrs. Velis was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where she sang in the choir and assisted her husband, who was a priest for the church. She was also a member of the Panahaikos Society, the Daughters of Penelope and the Women of Rotary.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, George Velis of Spokane and Stanley Velis of Bellingham; a daughter, Demetra Couman of Salt Lake City; a brother, Peter Luras of Coto de Caza, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Donald Kinman Potlatch, Idaho

Memorial service for Donald N, Kinman, 62, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, Idaho. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kinman, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He worked for Vowels Logging for 15 years.

In 1976 he married Sherry Chambers and they lived in Potlatch.

Mr. Kinman worked as a truck driver, hauling wood chips from St. Maries to Lewiston, for Jack Buell Trucking since 1976.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Lois Carpenter and Rondal Styer, both of Palouse, Tia McKinney of Potlatch, Brenda Buell of St. Maries and Donnie Hawkins of Dillon, Mont.; three sisters, Marlene Sullivan of Spokane, Linda Alpress of Harrison, Idaho, and Kathy Hudson of Moscow; and eight grandchildren.

David Sullivan Spokane

Funeral Mass for David Henry Sullivan, 50, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

A 46-year Spokane resident, Mr. Sullivan died Wednesday. He was born in Butte, Mont.

He graduated from Shadle Park High School.

Mr. Sullivan received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology from Washington State University.

He worked as a pharmacist at Sacred Heart Medical Center and recently at the Evergreen Pharmacy.

Mr. Sullivan was a member of Assumption Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mollie; a son, Joe Sullivan, and a daughter, Katie Sullivan, both of Spokane; his father, Bill Sullivan, and a brother, Larry Sullivan, both of Spokane; and three sisters, Pam Colwell and Deeanna Libby, both of Spokane, and Pat Wornstaff of Jackport, Nev.

Einar Holmblad Coeur d’Alene

Service for Einar Helge Holmblad, 88, is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home.

Born in Sweden, Mr. Holmblad died Thursday.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1918 with his parents and served with the Army during World War II.

Mr. Holmblad returned to the Coeur d’Alene area after his military service and worked for the Potlatch Lumber Mill for more than 40 years before retiring.

He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge for more than 60 years.

His wife, Hazel, died in 1998.

Survivors include a son, Ed Holmblad of Spokane; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

David Anderson Spokane

Visitation for David Stone Anderson will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Anderson died Wednesday. He was 61.

He graduated in 1957 from Lewis and Clark High School and then from Eastern Washington State College.

In 1964 he married Sandra Frovik.

He worked for Union Carbide Corp. and later operated Richard’s Pen Supply, a wholesale office products business in Spokane.

He was a member and past president of the National Association of Wholesale Independent Distributors, and was a member of the El Katif Shrine and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joe and Curt Anderson; a brother, James Anderson; and two grandsons.

Thomas Richardson Worley, Idaho

Memorial service for Thomas W. Richardson, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Worley Community Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Richardson, who was born in Czar, Alberta, died Wednesday.

His family moved to Colfax, Wash., when he was a child and he grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Colfax High School.

In 1942 he was drafted into the Army. He fought in the D-Day Invasion through the Battle of the Bulge with the Third Armored Division. He was wounded in 1944 and discharged in 1945. He received the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star.

After the war he worked for Neil’s Furniture Store in Pullman. He then managed a Chevron Station in Spokane with his brother-in-law, Leonard.

Mr. Richardson moved his family to Worley in 1950.

He became the Worley postmaster in 1953 and retired in 1979.

Mr. Richardson was a member of the American Legion Post No. 69 in Plummer, Idaho, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in St. Maries, Worley Community Church, Worley Senior Citizens and the Postmasters Association.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Flora; a daughter, Theresa Richardson of Priest River, Idaho; two sons, Don Richardson of Lewiston and Jerry Richardson of Cottonwood, Idaho; a sister, Florence Rosenkranz of Coeur d’Alene; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Roger Hough Hayden Lake, Idaho

Private service for Roger Allen Hough, 53, will be held at a later date. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hough, who was born in Denver, died Tuesday.

He had 37 years experience in the restaurant business and started as a dishwasher in Denver. He was a member of the American team that won five gold medals at the 1988 Culinary Olympics in Germany.

He moved to the Hayden Lake area in 1989 from Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Mr. Hough was named a certified master chef in 1996, becoming one of only 50 people with that designation out of 28,000 members of the American Culinary Federation.

He had worked in resturants in Casper, Wyo., at the Coeur d’Alene resort, was a former executive chef at The Beachhouse in Coeur d’Alene, and a former corporate chef at Bayou Brewing Company, Spokane.

Most recently he was associated with Kettle Works soup and sauce plant in Rathdrum, which makes soups and sauces for the food service industry.

Survivors include his wife, Penny; a son, Shane Hough; and two daughters, Shannon and Kristi.

Adele Durheim Deer Park

Service for Adele Selma Durheim, 83, will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Deer Park Seventh-day Adventist Church. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Durheim, who died Tuesday, was born in Flasher, N.D.

She married Ralph Durheim in 1940 and they moved to Deer Park.

Mrs. Durheim was a homemaker and helped her husband with his dairy farm.

She was a member and deaconess of the Central Seventh-day Adventist Church in Spokane, and was a member of the Dorcus Society and the Gardenspot Grange in Deer Park.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Janice Rasmussen of College Place, Wash., Mildred McKern of Meridian, Idaho, and Audrey Robinson of Tillamook, Ore.; a brother, Oscar Duncan of Everett; a sister, Alma Richter of Flasher; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
