A jury has awarded $1.4 million in damages to the developers who built the Hidden Village condominiums in Big Sky beginning in 1980.

The jury ruled that the Hidden Village Owners’ Association was “malicious” when it sought to kill plans by the developer, Hidden Village Inc., to expand the community of 141 condominiums by 57 units in 1992.

The owners’ association was accused of “a pattern of harassment” that included destroying signs directing customers to the development firm’s office, and preventing construction companies from using the neighborhood’s streets.

The jury also decided that developers Carlisle Neithold, Ken Gerrard and John Radick do not have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages that the owners’ association had sought. The association accused the men of shoddy construction and financial mismanagement between 1985 and 1991, when the three developers managed the condos.

The verdict was returned Saturday, concluding a two-week trial in Gallatin County District Court.
