William Stallman Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for William August Stallman, 92, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.
Mr. Stallman, who was born in Kemme, Germany, died Saturday.
He lived in Spokane before moving to Coeur d’Alene 33 years ago.
He married Thelma Hovland in 1929, and they lived in the Wolf Creek area near Coeur d’Alene for many years.
Mr. Stallman worked as a carpenter for most of his life.
He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling and rockhounding.
Survivors include a son, Donald Stallman of Spokane; three daughters, LaDonna Brown of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Doris DePriest of Fort Smith, Ark., and Betty Stephens of Spokane; two sisters, Hilda Holstein of Coeur d’Alene and Edith Latterell of Spokane; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Hobert Whisman Newport, Wash.
Service for Hobert Mearl Whisman, 71, will be at 2 p.m. today at Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park. Burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park.
Mr. Whisman, who was born in Keokee, Va., died Saturday.
He was a 38-year resident of the Spokane and Newport area.
Mr. Whisman owned and operated several small businesses and restaurants in Spokane and Oakesdale, Wash., and Sagle, Idaho.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carol; three sons, Robert Whisman of Athol, Idaho, Milo Whisman of Blanchard, Idaho, and Shawn Whisman of Rathdrum, Idaho; a daughter, Jackie Pittmann of Oakesdale, Wash.; three brothers, Kurt Whisman of Leavenworth, Wash., Burl Whisman of Seattle and Earl Whisman of Hawaii; two sisters, Grace Depew of Wenatchee and Irene Allen of Dryden, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Harold `Harry’ Pellens Ponderay, Idaho
Service for Harold Kenneth “Harry” Pellens, 78, will be held today at 1 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Military graveside rites will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Pellens, who was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., died Sunday.
He moved to Sandpoint with his family in 1926 and attended Bonner County Schools. He married Betty Hanson in 1941.
Mr. Pellens served with the Army during World War II and returned to the Sandpoint area after his military discharge.
He owned a pawn shop and bought and sold guns. He also worked in the construction business, and for the Bonner County School District and Eagle Courier Service.
Mr. Pellens later owned the Blue Creek Mine in Montana.
He was a former Boy Scout denfather, and was a member of the Bonner County Historical Society and TUFF.
He had also been involved in the cause to promote Veterans Day as a state holiday and was active in Bonner County veterans affairs.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sharron Bond of Tumtum, Wash.; three brothers and seven sisters; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Henry Dirks Bonners Ferry, Idaho
Service for Henry Ralph Dirks, 79, will be held today at 10 a.m. at Mt. View Mennonite Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dirks, who was born in California, died Sunday.
He grew up in Kansas and moved to Boners Ferry in 1938.
Mr. Dirks worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp manning Forest Service lookout towers. He was also employed by General Feed and Grain, where he worked for many years.
He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in 1946, and married Opal Unruh that same year.
Mr. Dirks also worked in the dairy and farming industries and worked as a finish carpenter for Bonner Ferry Builders.
He later moved to the Bonners Ferry Extended Care facility.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rosemary Unruh and Sandra Koehn, and a son, Bill Dirks, all of Bonners Ferry; two brothers, Emil Dirks of Kansas and Abe Dirks of Alabama; and three sisters, Helen Wiebe of Kansas, and Doris Jantz and Margorie Unruh, both of Bonners Ferry.
Vera (Stierwalt) Ward Dalton Gardens, Idaho
Memorial service for Vera Grace (Stierwalt) Ward, 50, will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hayden, Idaho. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ward, who was born in Ephrata, Wash., died Sunday.
Her family moved to the Coeur d’Alene area when she was 10 years old.
She worked as a laundry aide at Life Care Center in Coeur d’Alene. She also had worked as a night janitor at North Idaho College, a waitress and fry cook at the Sunset Bowling Center and manager of the Bi-Rite Sleep Shop.
Mrs. Ward was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also a member of the Cherokee Nation.
Her husband, Hans Peterson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Brutus; a son, Fritz Peterson of Anacortes, Wash.; a daughter, Billie Reichert of Georgia; seven stepchildren; her mother, Lois Stierwalt; and 16 grandchildren.
Clifford `Ted’ Bruhn Bonners Ferry, Idaho
Service for Clifford Claude “Ted” Bruhn, 88, will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bruhn, who was born in Bismarck, N.D., died Sunday.
He lived in various areas before settling in Boundary County. He worked as a logger, farmer, bus driver and operated a pack-camp on the Selway River.
Mr. Bruhn had also worked as a Boundary County chief deputy sheriff, served on the local election board and was a past Boundary County commissioner.
He enjoyed fishing, horses and outdoor recreation and was a member of the Sandpoint Saddle Club.
Mr. Bruhn was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Bond, in 1985.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Viola; four children, Richard Bruhn of Naples, Idaho, George Bruhn of Baker, Ore., Pearl Hoffine of Easton, Wash., and Gary Bruhn of Cusick, Wash.; five stepchildren, Connie Rippatti of Athol, Idaho, John Brown of Post Falls, Linda Helwege of Spokane, Sharon Comer of Naples and Donna Bachman of Sandpoint; a sister, Beatrice Thompson of Federal Way, Wash.; 36 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Louise Carlson Hayden, Idaho
Memorial service for Alice Louise Carlson, 78, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Hayden. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Carlson, who was born in Hanna, Alberta, died Monday. She attended schools in Des Moines, Iowa, and in 1948 married Hugo Carlson.
She and her husband moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1958. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and was involved in various church activities.
Mrs. Carlson also was active in computer research and recorded her life story on her computer.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Walt Carlson of Dalton Gardens, Idaho; five daughters, Marilyn Peterson of Denver, Lois Worst of Coeur d’Alene, Judy Fischer of Spokane, and Shirley Morris and Tina Carlson, both of Hayden; a brother, Archie Greenfield of Arizona; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Malfred Lund Sr. Spokane
Visitation for Malfred Emanuel Lund Sr., 79, will be today from 3 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.
Mr. Lund, who was born in Manvel, N.D., died Sunday.
He enjoyed basketball and boxing as a young man and served with the Marines during World War II, where he was a decorated soldier.
Mr. Lund moved to Spokane in 1953 and married Audrey Allen in 1957.
He worked for Northern Railroad as a painter and carpenter for 30 years before retiring.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Malfred Lund Jr. and Arthur Lund; a brother, Alex Lund; and two grandchildren.
Helen Olmstead Sandpoint
Visitation for Helen Barbara Olmstead, 86, will be today from 3 to 6 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.
Mrs. Olmstead, who was born in Ft. Benton, Mont., died Sunday.
She attended school in Fort Benton and in 1930 married Merle Olmstead.
She and her husband moved to Sandpoint in 1951.
She worked for Don’s Drive-in, Haworth’s Bakery, Sears Catalog Store and later as a receptionist for Dr. Franz Siemsen.
Mrs. Olmstead was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Winter Riders Snowmobile Club and the North Idaho C.B.ers, where she was known as Lady Pitchfork.
She enjoyed music and helped establish the Sandpoint Senior Citizen Center.
Mrs. Olmstead was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Olmstead of Sandpoint and Ray Olmstead of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Roma Barker of California; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Vida Wegner Coeur d’Alene
Graveside service for Vida Mae Wegner, 96, will be held today at 11 a.m. at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wegner, who was born in Asotin, Wash., died Friday.
She grew up on the family farm in Asotin and graduated from high school there before working as a bookkeeper for Lee Morris in Clarkston, Wash.
Mrs. Wegner married Adolph Wegner in 1932 and they owned the Craigmont Drug Store in Craigmont, Idaho, until his death in 1945.
She moved to Moscow, Idaho, and worked as a clerk and bookkeeper for Carter’s Drug Store until 1985. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1990 to be near family.
Mrs. Wegner was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Ivyhurst Club.
Survivors include a niece and nephew; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews, including Richard and Dolores Rogers, both of Coeur d’Alene.
Emogene Green Blanchard, Idaho
Graveside service for Emogene M. Kenison Green, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Blanchard Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Green, who was born in Ligonier, Pa., died Saturday.
She graduated from high school in Ligonier and worked as a machinist in factories.
In 1938 she moved to California and worked as a factory worker.
Mrs. Green moved to Blanchard in 1969 from Torrence, Calif., and became a homemaker.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Blanchard Grange No. 440 and the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary.
Her husbands, Carlos Kenison died in 1984 and Glen Green died in 1996.
She is survived by two sisters, Edna Overcash of Coeur d’Alene and Dorothy Barkley of Acme, Pa.
Wanda `Jean’ Smith Spokane
Memorial service for Wanda “Jean” (Patton) Smith, 75, will be at 2 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home.
Born in Cushing, Okla., Mrs. Smith died Friday.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Smith and her husband moved to Spokane 15 years ago.
Survivors include her husband, Lee; a son, Steven Bowman; a daughter, Leanne Zilar; and eight grandchildren.
