When: Saturday

Where: Eagle Island State Park, near Boise

Times: Racing begins with the A-2 girls at 10 a.m. PDT, followed by the A-2 boys, A-1 Division II girls, A-1 Division II boys, A-1 Division I girls, A-1 Division I boys, A-3 girls and A-3 boys.

What’s at stake: The top four teams in each race capture trophies and the top 20 individuals earn medals.

A-1 Division I

State favorites: Meridian (girls); Capital (boys)

At a glance: The Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston boys teams and Coeur d’Alene and Lake City girls teams qualified.

CdA seniors Chris Vails (regional champ) and Travis Newby hope to finish in the top 10. Newby was 12th and Vails 20th last year when the divisions were one classification.

CdA’s boys hope to contend for a trophy.

Viks Holly Grant (regional champ) and Brenna Giesen and Lake City’s Rachael Bates should contend for medals.

A-1 Division II

State favorites: Vallivue and Jerome (girls); Vallivue (boys)

At a glance: Vallivue’s boys and girls are considered the top teams in the state regardless of classification.

The Sandpoint and Post Falls boys and girls teams qualified for state. It’s not likely that any of them can contend for a trophy.

Sandpoint senior Isaac Zentner (regional champ) and Post Falls junior Ethan Anyan will challenge for top-10 placing. Anyan placed 17th last year.

Sandpoint freshman Ali Brosh (regional champ) will contend for a medal.

A-2

State favorites: Gooding, McCall-Donnelly, Middleton (girls); Preston, Bonners Ferry, Salmon (boys)

At a glance: The Bonners Ferry and Lakeland boys and Bonners Ferry and St. Maries girls teams qualified for state.

Junior Forest Braden of Bonners Ferry (district champ), state runner-up last year, is favored to win a state title. Teammate Aaron Hanson should improve on his 18th place from last year.

St. Maries sophomore Stephanie Thurston should capture the first individual medal by a North Idaho A-2 runner since 1997. Lakeland’s Ellen Crecilius and Bonners Ferry’s Meadow Braden also could challenge for medals.

A-3

State favorites: Malad (girls); Firth (boys)

At a glance: Kootenai freshman Amy Collins captured the District I-II title and will challenge for a high placing at state.
