Can I Get Some Privacy?

Privacy experts use one word to describe people who assume that their personal data are safe at a Web site with a fancy privacy policy: gullible.

One privacy advocate says such policies are “not worth the pixels they’re printed on.”

While Web businesses tout privacy policies as preferable to government regulation, critics say that the policies can be hard to understand, misleading, or openly hostile to consumer privacy.
