Michael Stine

Resume: Democratic challenger, age 43 … this is Stine’s second challenge of incumbent Dick Panabaker. Stine, seeking his first elected office, earned 28 percent of the vote two years ago … works as a voice data cable technician for Contract Communications of Spokane … owned and operated a sign business and remodeling business for 10 years … spent 14 years in the U.S. Air Force … graduated from high school and attended two semesters of junior college … lives near Garwood, but has a Rathdrum address, a Hayden phone number and gets fire protection from Athol … married to Yvonne, two step-sons and two daughters from a previous marriage.

Why running: “I hope to put faith back into government,” Stine said. “A lot of people are fed up with the cockiness, the arrogance and the attitude of the commission.”

Issues: Wants to bring better-paying jobs from clean industry, lower taxes, expand youth activities, reduce crime, protect the aquifer, approve proper zoning, improve the county’s image and support equal opportunities.
