Jerry Lewis Hosts Telethon
The Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon will hit the airwaves on Sunday for a 21.5-hour marathon of entertainment and fund raising. The event will be aired locally on KSKN beginning at 7 a.m. Monday.
As always, the show will feature some of the hottest names in Hollywood. Stars scheduled to appear include Christina Aguilera, Delta Burke, Tony Danza, Dennis Franz, Jack Lemmon, Marilu Henner, Casey Kasem, Regis Philbin, Frank Sinatra Jr. and Martha Stewart. Ed McMahon will host. The special will also include personality profiles of people and families assisted by MDA’s programs.
The MDA funds research programs working to combat a variety of neuromuscular diseases and provides services to those afflicted by them. The annual telethon is the organization’s major fund-raiser and organizers hope to top last year’s total of $53.1 million.
This year the entire telethon will be broadcast live on the Internet beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday at www.mdausa.org. Web surfers can also make donations online or ask questions which will be answered live during the telethon.
Users must have RealPlayer software to view the Webcast, which can be downloaded free at www.real.com or at the MDA’s Web site.
