Auditions Being Held For Ballet And Theater

Auditions for Theatre Ballet of Spokane will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Ballet Arts Academy, 416 W. Sprague. Artistic director Peggy Goodner Tan will audition advanced and professional dancers for company positions for the 2000-01 performance season.

This year’s season opens with Allegro Baroque and Beyond’s Oct.

13 concert, “Dance Baroque IV.” The dance company also performs “Ballet and Bubbly” on New Year’s Eve and “Backstage at the Ballet,” performed at local elementary schools throughout the year. For information, call 838-5705.

Auditions for Alberta Ballet’s “Nutcracker” will be held Sept. 24 at the Woman’s Club, 1428 W. Ninth. Dancers between the ages of 10 and 15 with height ranging from 4-foot-6 to 5-foot-6 may audition. A minimum of three years of training is required.

The Nutcracker will be performed Dec. 1-3 at the Spokane Opera House. For specific audition times, call 838-5705.

Theater Arts for Children is holding auditions for “Puss-N-Boots” on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. at Theater Arts for Children, University City Mall, 10600 E. Sprague. Director Jerry Uppinghouse is looking for actors 8 years old and up. This is a non-musical. No preparation is necessary. For more information, call 892-5413.

National music award

Musicians and other young artists who are high school seniors or 17-18 years old are being asked to apply to the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) ARTS 2001 program (www.ARTSawards.org) by Oct. 2. The top two young musicians competing in the categories of jazz, music or voice will receive $25,000 cash awards. The annual awards were created exclusively for ARTS Awardees in an effort to support exceptionally talented young artists pursuing a career in music.
