Three girls were injured Tuesday afternoon when a float tube they were riding on flipped over, sending its six passengers into Hayden Lake.

The water toy was being pulled by a boat piloted by Donald D. McElvain of Polson, Mont., according to a Kootenai County sheriff’s report. The boat was turning when the accident occurred.

The passengers, all juveniles, were injured when they collided with the water and each other, according to the sheriff’s statement.

The three girls were taken to Kootenai Medical Center after the 2 p.m. accident. They were treated and released.

Sheriff’s deputies said the boat was not damaged and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
